Saw a lone bottle of Talisker 18 for 105 USD by a store near me during their annual sale. Did a quick research & realized it's a steal at that price so I grabbed it. The cashier thought they have long sold out & told me I'm lucky to find the last one. Cracked it open later & I was blown away. It's nothing short of incredible!

I agree with your assessment of the possible reason for the 45.8 ABV... gotta be marketing. But, if 45.8% is special, wouldn't 47% be even MORE special?😆. I also agree with one of the commenters who stated that $130 is reasonable, but IMO $190 is NOT. Still loving the 10 yo, and hoping to find a bottle at a reasonable price. When you can get a 13 yo Craigellachie for around $50 in 2023, four times that amount for an 18 yo is just sort of silly... Keep up the good work!

Talisker is my favorite Scotch distillery. The balance of peat and martime notes is amazing I obviously do not drink it often though as it is out of m regular price range, combined with PA only have two expressions last I checked (no Storm).

I believe 45.8 % ABV is 80 proof in the old British Imperial Proof system. BTW you got a great buy. This is typically a $175 bottle in my market.

The Talisker 18 is rarely available (Now there is one bottle in the whole country), and the price is insane $200 😮 Luckily I love the 10 😊

Talisker 18 is a great whiskey, there's no question about it. The problem is for most people. It's so damn expensive. You are absolutely lucky $130, It is $175 + here. It is hard to justify that price knowing what it used to be. As far as Jura I really liked old 16-year-old do not know why it was discontinued. 18 yo is good. You still can find it around $110(personally never look for Jura).

It’s outstanding but at $270 Canadian I won’t be buying another bottle. I am thrilled to have thoroughly enjoyed this Talisker but the pricing is outrageous. I’m surprised you found it for such a low price! Cheers!

Check out Geoff's review - GWhisky - he talks about the outrageous prices as well - UK, US, Canada. I don't think what you paid is the going rate - not sure what it is but I think it's more. Insane.

I grabbed a distillers edition for only like 70 bucks a while ago. It's good but not so so different than the storm in my opinion. Has a little extra depth from the cask finish

Did the recipe changed with the new label? I am a connoisseur of the old label variant and currently have a bottle with the new label. I immediately noticed increased peat taste and less sweet. It seemed a bit brash in comparison to the variant in the old box.

I've been waiting a while to try the Talisker 18. The Talisker 10 (and Lagavulin 16) are my two go to whiskies, and I've been searching for ages to try the 18 without having to pay AUD $300 (~USD $200) for a bottle. One day...

Interesting, I would always grab the oldest design in a shelf if it is from the likes of Diageo. They usually increase prices, not quality... Probably not a big difference between 2 bottles of similar bottling dates, but older (i.e. bottled earlier) is likely the better whisky. That won't apply to batch products, but core range products.

I recently purchased a bottle with the new label and I tasted a noticeable difference between it and the older bottle. The peat is more pronounced and the flavor kind of reminds me of a lagavulin 16 but milder. I am looking for the earlier version as I prefer that.

The abiding memory I have, of my only afternoon on Jura, is that I couldn't find a pub. !! Subsequently, in one of my local supermarkets, there was the eight year old. Not expensive. OK Jura, I'll bite, my expectations aren't so high, it being an eight year old. It seemed to taste vaguely of honey and not much else. I don't like honey. Jura Eighteen? I pass.
