Just picked up a bottle of the 18 after hearing nothing but good things about it. Didn't do a deep dive as it was only a neck pour but what caught me right off the back was the mouthfeel as well. It was just so creamy. After a few sips, the bottle that came to mind was Lag 12. Great start to the bottle i'd say. Keep up the great content. 10k right around the corner. Cheers

$165 (most of the time) in Australia, and worth it at that price. $170US puts it over $200AUD... not sure I'd pay that much. But a damn superb dram. Sadly can't get it here in Sweden without paying more and having it shipped from UK/EU. Happy to have enjoyed a bottle last year whilst back in Melbourne. Trying it side by side with its younger sibling really helped it shine and reveal its elegance. Totally agree - on point review! Cheers, Erik.

Just opened a bottle of this. I love Talisker anyway but this 18year old is now my favourite bottling. It is so good. Cost me £86 UK pounds so its roughly twice the price of the 10year old over here. I will probably stick with this 18 year old though now that i have finally opened and tasted it.

Good review of a great bottle. This has been one of my favorites for 20 years. And it hasn't changed much over the years. It's as good today as it was in 2008. Unlike Macallan 18, which is a shell of what it was even 6 years ago. Macallan watered down flavor compared to old bottlings from 2017 and earlier. Same goes for their rare cask and their 12 year. In fact, the old 12 year from 2016 and prior is as good or better than the new 18 year.
@stuffforwork4 жыл бұрын
This is my favorite ~46% whisky. I love the mild peat coupled with all the other flavor notes Erik called out. I also get a bit of orange and ginger, which I love. Great whisky. I agree with the comment at the end, if you have $170 to spend on a whisky, this is one of the best whiskys you can get at that price.

I have tasted 3 different Talisker bottles and NONE of them are like anything on Islay..... or anything else in the Highlands. The smoke is moderate (around 22 PPM) and it has a distinctive pepper and spiciness.

Here, in the U.K, the Talisker 18 costs £75-85 and that puts it straight into the great quality/value 18 year old category. The 10 is regularly in sales for as low as £30 which is great value also. I agree that the 18 has the added maturity and elegance but the 10 is more punchy. I like them the same but for different reasons. Good, on point, review. Cheers

Well, £75-85 is a fantastic price for the Talisker 18, I would buy several bottles for that price. Here in Germany, the 18 is about 180 Euros, and I don’t pay that money for it. I mean, I have a soft spot for Talisker, I love the character of their spirit and I love their whisky, especially the 18 year old. It’s a whisky with a very unique profile, and Skye is such a beautiful Island. On the other hand, Diageo .. They doubled their price for the 18 year old, they chill filter this beautiful whisky and they add artificial colour. They claim „Made by the sea“, but the casks mature on the UK mainland. I don’t know, Talisker might be the biggest cocktease in the whole whisky world. Still .. Talisker is something else, especially the 18 year old. In spite of Diageo’s efforts to castrate it. Ah, damn .. I think I‘m going to buy a new bottle of the Talisker 18 ..

Thank you Erik. This is definately out of my price range, and unfortunately I can't get it here to Sweden without a really expensive private import. That'll be at least double the retail price. Always a tough choice when deciding to go all in on a premium bottle of single malt such as this. Here I think it probably does justify the price however, Talisker does have that incredibly unique character with the added-reflux and worm tubs they have over there on Skye. You aren't gonna find that special something in just any other distillery!

The whisky community needs to ban together and flat out shame distilleries that use e150 to color their products, Talisker 10 and 18 both use chill filtering and have e150 added and that’s just a double no in my book, try the 2020 8 year old Talisker that diageo released if you’re looking for something more organic and it’s bottled at cask strength, which is a big win, it’s really disheartening that distilleries still try to deceive the public with e150 in 2021.
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies4 жыл бұрын
I'm not into banning or shaming. I think we should just not buy it if we are against it. If they perceive it as non-profitable they will change. However, distilleries are like air craft carriers. They don't change direction quickly and it takes a long time for them to do a 180° turn around as they tend to be stuck in tradition. Ralfy is a very influential Whisky Tuber and has been beating this drum for a long time and yet nothing has changed.
