Thank you for this! I’ve now played three games with fifth edition (a 4th play with Talisman Alliances expansion planned tonight). I regularly play third and fourth editions as well. With so many folks online complaining about the changes - namely the toad and death and other punishing rules, it’s nice to see someone who is reviewing this logically and recognizing the reason for these changes. A quicker game is a good thing in my book.

I can understand that if you play Talisman often it is good that it plays faster. But for me it hits the table a few times a year, at the most, but every one of those times its an all-dayer or all-nighter, lots of beer, food breaks and chit chat, and just tremendous amounts of crazy fun. The fact that the game is just that unfair, silly grind that sometimes seem to never end makes this such memorable events that I wouldnt trade it away for anything! Initially I was really hyped but ive decided to not jump on this version yet. Ill wait and see where the first few expansions go. Down the line I might be in but truth be told I much prefer the dorky art of 4th and so far I see nothing in the new edition that would make playing it better or more fun than the old edition. That might change with expansions, I kind of hope so. But if not, who cares, the more people play Talisman the better no matter what edition.

Thank you for this video, it's made my mind up for me... after a decade of avoiding Talisman, this edition seems to fix all my concerns from watching reviews of the older game. Especially 5th being rated highly by a 4th edition veteran such as yourself... sealed the deal!

You could always house rule 4th edition with the instant respawn from 5th.

Fantastic insight into the 5th edition. Just got none and cannot wait to introduce it to my mates that never played the game. It will be a blast!

Just got done with our first playthrough and had a blast. It was funny and the grind to improve our stats was a fun one!

Wish they would have done away with the cones. Should have done what Relic did with the dials on the character boards.

That atrocious board is a deal breaker for me. Who the hell did decide that it is cool to see everything upside down?

Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks for the review.

Great, now I need to buy another edition... Ain't gonna lie, I like the Fate mechanic and the artwork on the cards is really nice. Miniatures look good as well but the Monk as current, kinda sucks. I do like the options for hard/soft death mechanic.

We have enjoyed game to be supper toxic in 4th edition, not sure how i feel about 5th, doesnt seem like a lot of fun

This sounds like a couple of rule changes that one could easily adapt to 4th edition should you wish and don't want to invest in a new game. My favorite rule change is fate for movement and the stat increase rules. But I don't see a compelling reason to purchase this if you already own a ton of stuff.

I own complete collections of third and fourth editions and I’m all in on this new edition. Playing our fourth play of fifth edition tonight. Each edition scratches a different itch for me, and fifth is our new go-to when we need a quicker game.

Oh, thats huge good changes. But I don't like 5th edition look and presentation.
