Slug utilized the Lucy reference throughout many of Atmosphere’s early 2000s albums. Lucy Ford (Lucifer) was a metaphor for failed relationships, drug/alcohol addictions and other life’s obstacles. Gotta check out Fck You Lucy… the ultimate hip hop break up song imo but when you listen, listen with the mid set of Slug not only talking about women but also battling addictions, especial with drugs/alcohol. It’s an absolutely insane song! Slug and Ant don’t get talked about enough in the realm of literally being the group that popularized emo rap in the early part of the 21st century!

I’m not going to get into the nonsense of people saying this is emo. Was a whole other thing in its time, and 100% wasn’t that. But glad you guys found Slug. He’s a lyrical genius while being a completely overlooked at the time becuz he was a Midwestern white boy. But truly was a down to earth Minnesotan. Love how you could catch him live at a venue or at the supermarket and he was totally genuine. His stuff with Murs(Felt) was amazing too.
