How about this. what if "I used to do it many times, but now I still do it rarely". Can i keep using 'used to'?

Good question. I wouldn't recommend using "used to" with "many times". Instead, try an adverb of frequency like "often". "I used to do it often, but now I do it rarely."

When I was a child I lived in a sea-resources area (fishing village?) with my grandmother. My grandfather was a fisherman. I used to work cleaning the fish the fishermen had caught, and so they would pay me some money. Hope that helps!
