Nobuo Uematsu is probably my favorite composer. Been hooked on his work ever since I played Final Fantasy as a young child. But, yeah I have a lot of similar attitudes in this regard. I love competition, but I don't care about the outcome of the contest. I aim to win not because I want the win, but because I like the motivation of pushing myself more in a serious setting to better measure how far I've come. As a martial artist, it's like sparring to me. I want both my and my competition to learn and grow from the experience, which is why I often share my experience to see if others can grasp anything from it. Competition can be spiritual if you approach it right, but often people come at it primal. I really loved your piece. It was the most interesting and captivating for me last night. It is a shame things went the way it did.

I admire and respect your attitude. I'm sure we both know martial artists who only want to beat other people, even those at a lower level. But if we never face someone at our own level or above, we'll never grow.

I don't think competition is bad. Many athletes will attest that it's what pushes them toward improvement, but it's for the sake of the sport in the end and they achieve a similar feeling of being in the zone when they're pushing themselves to their absolute limit. When the art, sport, what have you, (Doesn't matter) is left at the altar of egotism that's when it turns into chest-thumping/peacocking/dick measuring. Short version, whatever you do, do it for its own sake, not to satisfy your ego.
