Hello ! I just saw by chance your video and I fall backwards !! You are so young and have already understood everything about this mythical album. You talk about Mark with so much intelligence, accuracy, finesse, respect, but also passion. I'm 53, I'm crazy about Mark and Talk Talk since 1984 ! I have all his albums, which I bought over the years of their releases. In 1991 when Laughing Stock was released, I was 25 years old. At that time, few people understood his music and I was an alien for all the people around me. His music "spoke" to me and I could'nt do without it, I listened to After the Flood billions of times, and I always listen to it. I've been listening to Mark and Talk Talk every day since then, a real drug for me. Impossible to spend a day without hearing her sublime voice, which often pierces me as it is elegant, moving, heartbreaking. Mark himself had such a captivating, magnetic, hypnotic presence. The news of his death has been an incredible violence for me, an inestimable loss. However, I, who is so often found that he was an underrated artist, which always made me very angry, I am very happy to see that he did'nt create all his music for nothing, and that he finally has the recognition he deserves, that his music has gone through time without a wrinkle and that it touches the younger generation today, it's huge, I think even Mark could not have dreamed better. Really, your video and your analysis is an incredible marvel that you carry with the freshness of your youth, you are at the height of the immense talent of Mark, and believe me, to study it myself since 35 years, I know exactly what I'm talking about. Fantastic, THANK YOU.

Reviewing Laughing Stock while wearing a Nirvana T-shirt pretty much sums up the exact moment I discovered this album in 92. Thanks for this!

That’s amazing that such a young man like you understands this album. I have a very strong thing for After The Flood but I love it all. I think Mark Hollis went even further with it compared to Spirit of Eden, it is a little more “dirty” while Spirit of Eden is so clean and pure. I recommend that you try the Mark Hollis solo album, you won’t believe it. It is maybe more intended to people who like classical music. Or not. I’m not sure, as I am not a classical music girl myself and I still love it too. Anyway it warms my heart to see that the young generation got it. Wonderful! Thank you for this great genius who was Mark Hollis.

i listened to this a month ago and i acknowledged the innovation and creativity behind it but just didnt click until i re-listened yesterday and its a masterpiece. the emotional roller coaster this album takes you on is amazing and its such filling but simultaneously hallow instrumentation that i havent felt with any other record. and then it ends on the same empty and eerie note(not in an actual, musical sense) it started on with runeii. the record feels like being in an empty out mansion. thank you for putting me on cause this album is easily one of my favorites ever now

The two last albums by Talk Talk is two of the best albums released by any band, EVER When they presented the album Spirit of Eden, the record company (EMI) was not very pleased, doubting it would be a commercial success

I bought this album the same time as Nevermind in Sept 91- which makes your shirt perfect here. While Nevermind had me stage diving, Laughing Stock kept me mystified confounded and obsessed ever since. It remains hands down one of the greatest and under-appreciated albums ever created.

It's Spiritualized's most prettiest album, Jason's vocals are over the top for me. And that 17 minute closer is epic as fuck. He really should do an essential to that album.

For the record, if I’m not mistaken, the After The Flood noise solo (The final thing recorded for the album by the way and by extension talk talk) was not a guitar but in fact a wind/sax synthesizer on its last legs cranked through an overdriven vox amp.
