Why hasn't this man been given a Nobel prize for peace? Not only a great musician but a wonderful human being. Fantastic to see the Arab audience applauding a Jewish musician, there is hope for us all. Thanks for posting this video.

I love Daniel Barenboim, not just for his musicianship, but also for his intellect (and the fact that he speaks 6 languages FLUENTLY) and his outspoken views on human rights. He's a true Citizen of the World. I think much of that must be because he's traveled so much and studied/lived in a number a number of places since he was a child, demonstrating what Mark Twain said about travel: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” (from 'The Innocents Abroad')

The Arabic Classic music is real. OM Kaltum, Fairuz, Abdel Halim Hafez and on and on. Big respect for Mr Barenboim and his son Michael.

Just for the record, his parents were both argentinians. It was Barenboim's grand parents who were russians and emigrated to Argentina. They're buried in what was a jewish community in La Pampa province.

I'm firmly of the view too, that, the Palestrina and Israel conflict is not a political conflict, rather it's a human conflict and can neither be solved politically nor also militarily. Both of the peoples have to now accept the existence of the other. All the other approaches removing humanitarian aspect to the solution are not going to work and that's why a solution is not found after nearly a century. The issue needs a rethink? Ouch!
