We had a huge DnB scene in New Zealand in the late 90's. These guys would fly down from London to play gigs in Wellington like Studio 9. Saw Grooverider, Bad Company UK, DJ Hype, Bailey and Goldie of course. Regret never being able to see Photek though - Solaris is one of the most amazing albums and still own it on vinyl.

'Predicts'? Easy to say with retrospect, but I disagree. Anyhow, dubstep ended up evolving more from dark UK garage - from producers like Horsepower / Benny Ill, El-B and Jay Da Flex. The drum and bass influence and crossover came after that.

If your saying all the dnb sounds the same now you just aint looking hard enough. loads of dnb about! Glad to see One7four festival last saturday in essex there are so many dnb heads out here we need more events in essex! Dillinja 2-3 and randall 3-4. SAY NO MORE! There will always be respect and admiration for the legends by the real music lovers. Dillinja is literally a Dr in dnb. whens the valve system coming out though? never experienced it but its on the bucket list. A lot of the older lot naturally stopped going raving which is fair enough innit but theres no point moaning about evolution of the music just be greatful for whatever era you were in and it is all accesible at your fingertips for freey understand how many ppl make dnb now. plenty of likeminded people. I always laugh at the older lot who say the "pills aint what like they were in the 90s" Its like na mate you just had your time and now you tend your garden and get your prostate checked (Dont forget book it now its important) Chemical tests on amazon and at festivals now and people dont have to buy pills off strangers at raves now so its good times. Praise jesus! The young ones are the main ones putting money into the scene so thats why it always looks like theres only ever jump up nights going on. BUT most of these artists on this documentary still play every weekend. Scene is so strong. My generation were kids when the internet cameout downloading porn on limewire before we even had pubes and the first young kids to smoke proper skunk. we need stimulation ASAP, I need drugs that work delivered to my doors by a tusted local vendor and tunes that are gonna stimulate me at a rave not just create an atmosphere. At home people will forever be digging in the crates but its just all on the internet now aint it. Having said that I fucking love some of the old stuff its sounds so raw and organic. of course im a little jealous of those who were literally there at the start of it. Hearing a completely new genre in a crowd of people who went out to actually dance and following djs in this whole new world of dub culture are you mad? Meeting people to find out whats coming out rather than just checking soundcloud and juno. So many people now just get on the packet in their local. Sniffing round the same old birds having the same shit conversations. Cant wait for the new Macky G EP on metalheadz watch out for it!
