Talkin' Ranbu - 06 - Hanamaru First Impressions!

I started watching Touken Ranbu Hanamaru without having played the game, and I loved it. I'm a lover of Japanese history, especially the Shinsengumi and the Meiji Restoration. Having played Hakuoki to completion, I was super stoked that there was a sort of focus on Okita's swords, as Okita was my favorite in Hakuoki (I mean like I'm borderline obsessed with the man). Watching Hanamaru actually inspired me to play the Tourabu game, and I am now deep in sword boy hell. But I love it. Anyway, I enjoy watching your Touken Ranbu videos! They make me smile.

I watch the first episode with my brother who's not a touken ranbu player. This was his first impression My brother: this show is just pure fanservice. Me: yeah but I don't care I love it to death.

I hope you can review the whole series now. I personally found Hanamaru good since from the get go, "Hanamaru" (which is a word related to SoL itself) made it obvious it's gonna focus on the swords' lives in the Citadel and as a new fan of the game, I really enjoy the references. Hanamaru seems a hit to the Japanese fans as well, as its sales for Volume 1 was the best this season. Also, the PV for the ufotable 2017 version has been released. I believe based on the anime ending (with Ikedaya and Kyoto as the focus), then the 2017 version will really be about the Shinsengumi VS anti-bakufu (Mutsunokami). I hope you can do a video discussing about it too. :)

Man i have missed this series xD glad to you guys back talking about touken ^^ in the time between i was at once struggling to get 1 jiji .... i now have 3 ..... oh and 7 uguisumaru... still no kogi or ichigo xD Sorry i could not make the 5 year stream ...i sorta died of tiredness ...

I think that, since the game itself has not came outside japan yet (I really hope it does someday), the series is based in what Japanese spectators and players want to see in a Touken Ranbu series, which is fan service in the form of happy swords sharing with each other and SOME battles and history of the game. They already have the game itself to see the universe completely so they just want to see the characters interacting. Thats why the show was probably not thought as an independent series but as a compliment of the game, and for us is just strange (but still very cool) to see this "chunks" of events happening instead of a real written story in each episode.

Ufotable is scheduled for their own adaptation, started next year. The Touken Ranbu coming out now is meant to get the hype-train going and to garner monetary cushion for Ufotable's take on it.

I'd say Tales of Zestiria X was pretty good! I've not played the game so the plot felt a bit basic but the character interactions were great. I heard they swapped scenes around from the game and it still felt perfectly coherent on a scene-to-scene level. And the animation was definitely the usual amazing ufo quality so I'm hopeful it'll be a good adaption!

I feel like they didn't make it focus on Kashuu and Yasusada because they still have hopes of bringing them on ufotable. It'd be neat if it ends up as some sort of a contrast project. Where they try to show two sides of the whole cast of characters considering ufotable is said to be the serious series and hanamaru is the slice of life/easy going one.

Having played Kancolle and saw its adaptation I sympathise when you realise that the game , the characters and the amount of hours included ,greatly influence one's own point of view when it comes to an anime adaptation ,and whether its adaptation results good or not, it becomes somewhat irrelevant just because it has such a big amount of referential stuff , being a famous lines , the laws that the franchise applies or simple interaction between characters that make it appreciable for fans of the game.

well ishikirimaru and nikkari have a recollection together and i don't quite remember but, i believe nikkari's smith is also somehow associated with sanjou munechika...

To sum it up, their recollection was about how Nikkari felt guilty about killing a woman in the past and confides to Ishikirimaru because Nikkari envies him since Ishi's a spiritual healing sword and cures diseases. It's also the fact that Nikkari used to be an Oodachi.

i've never played the game before but i have listen to ur the previous talkin' ranbu podcasts n history vids n i thought the anime was ok not terrible but not great either i'm going to continue to watchin the anime n i heard its getting a dub n a season 2
