I remember a Spider-Man Letter to the Editor complaining about non-Marvel villains appearing in the series(probably referring to the Bakshi episodes), and the reply was that Marvel wasn't directly involved in the show.

So Marvel basically told consumers to piss off because they were too nosy with corporate bullshit.

I last saw these episodes probably 40-something years ago but I still remember them. As a kid, I always assumed that Spider-Man and RRH had both visited the same alien planet and had "similar" (actually, identical) adventures.

@@Peremptor Well, given that, in Rocket Robin Hood's Dementia 5 episode, that alien-hole flew past Earth without landing on it already told you how they were gonna cut more corners.

Interesting timing, coming to see this video; I was looking up Rocket Robin Hood because of it and the actor who voiced Robin just died a couple weeks ago. :(

Having been a kid in Northern Ontario in the early 1970s with only two English channels to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings I might be able to help. Rocket Robin Hood aired on one of the two channels, and then Spiderman aired on the other channel immediately afterward. By chance, both this pair of episodes and Revolt in the Fifth Dimension/Dementia Five aired immediately following each other, despite being on different channels affiliated with different networks (CBC and CTV). If I remember correctly (50 years is a long time.), the colours in both versions were the same. The difference in colouration is probably due to the quality of the recording or film stock of the Rocket Robin Hood version. Yes. My younger sister brother and I were very amused at watching the exact same stories with the same animations twice in a row with different characters.

Whoops. I forgot to note that the "plane" Spidey uses is frequently depicted as one of the ships normally used by Rocket Robin and his merry men throughout the Rocket Robin Hood series.

Good thing J. Jonah Jameson never found out that Spidey basically NUKED an island somewhere out at sea. What with recent memories of the Cuban Missile Crisis and all.

Here is a quick bit of trivia. The original film camera used to film Spiderman and Rocket Robin Hood is, or at least was when I was taking classes there, owned by the animation department at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. (Please forgive me for adding a fourth comment in rapid succession. I am not trying to spam.)

That scene of Spider-Man out smarting the Rhino Dino reminds me of the scene from King Kong when Driscoll cuts the vine and watches the deformed gator fall to his death.

Did the later seasons of Spider-Man '66 also pad out their episodes with repeated interstitials in the way that "Rocket Robin Hood" did? That's my enduring memory of the latter show. I can scarcely remember the plot of any "proper" episode, but I can definitely remember the mini-profiles on Little John, Friar Tuck, etc. that were played over and over in the year 3000.

Wasn't the "plane" destroyed in the Spider-man version? Btw: love how the lavicide ship changes into a different ship before blowing up the mountain monster. Loved this video.

The lavacite ship was destroyed, not Spidey's jet-ship. Also, liked how in both Spidey and Rocket Robin Hood, sometimes the bugs appeared without the face pincers...I guess the budget didn't allow for corrections

I liked the Rocket Robin Hood cartoons when I was a kid. The premise of the show was good - they adapted the Robin Hood legend as a sci-fi tale. Unhappily is really hard to find anything about it.

I have the series on DVD; two 4-disc sets from E1 Entertainment. There's a disclaimer on the back about the quality of the original video and the fact that episode 6, "Safari" is not available at all. It's interesting. ..there are a lot of things in the episodes on disc that I never saw as a kid; the theme song with lyrics, some of the inserts between acts, etc.

I think the Studio that did the 60's Spiderman was plain LAZY the early 60's Marvel Superhero cartoon just had animated mouth and almost nothing else. I used to have the 67 Spiderman DVD. I saw all these episodes and I love the 1st season, as it was action packed, had all the classic Spidey villians, brighter in tone, it was a happy show. The later season sucked (except for "HOME", great episode) not as many Spidey villain appearances, depressing vibe with dark dreary colors. Yes the 1st season was silly, but lighthearted fun, but these later seasons were a lil' too dark in tone for me. At least they could have redesigned Spidey with more webbing on his costume. I will say that Bashki's "Hey good lookin'" film was pretty good.

I think it less that they were lazy, but more that they didn’t have a lot of money for the shows.

At the 22 minute mark: In From Menace to Menace, a little, cute pink dinosaur is sitting on top of the rock rhino, but in Phantom from the Depths of Time, it`s missing. Its humor is kind of out of place in this type of episode. Just as well that the Spider-man remake did not include it, eh?

Hi, i enjoyed your video comparison, i have a question though thats kinda outside of the box. The musical organ that dr manta is playing on the spiderman version. You wouldn't happen to know what that song is? Or possibly where its used again? Been hunting for it for quite awhile now.

Doctor Manta is a very creepy and nightmarish villain with his skeleton-like insectoid appearance. It is a pity he was never reused in the comics.

RRH was produced in Canada, was it not?? I sure liked it...even in my late teens, early 20s!! Even as a Kid. I did notice stuff like this!! Example..Josie & The Pussy Cats.. the way Valerie would hold and move about with her tambourines...in The Amazing Chan, the young Chan Girl's moves were Identical. Another one..The Archies and The Brady Kids..in the musical numbers...all the movements were identical!! Veronica and Marsha on the organ and Betty and Jan with the tambourine!!

Rocket Robin Hood even reused it's OWN stuff; there were two episodes in the same season where they fought a King-Tut-like villain who used a giant sphinx to attack them; but the episodes were basically the EXACT SAME show with only some slightly differing dialogue.

Yup. RRH had the same embarrassing problem as Spider-man. Last few episodes of both shows had 99% recycled animation.@@nathanelke5234
