My name is Xanthe Wyse. I am an artist in New Zealand. I paint part-time, as I have very limited energy with my disabilities.
I usually paint abstracts and nature scenes but I decided to challenge myself with a city painting, with one of my photos as a reference.
I am nearly finished - just some detailing associated with the workers. Was hoping to finish it today so my paints go away for some more space in my room for a bit. Might be tomorrow.
I have uploaded some short progress videos with some art tips along the way.
I didn't film the entire painting process, due to lack of space. I might have some handheld footage here and there that I can knit together to demonstrate some of the process.
I use a different colour palette for every painting. In this painting, I chose mainly neutrals, mainly with mixing with prussian blue (a dark blue with brownish-red undertones).
This was a very challenging painting, with complex reflections. Perspective was extra important, so I had to problem-solve how to do this.
I will probably do a glaze (pigment with a medium which will dry transparent). Just have tiny details to do but I will wait until I feel less tired.
I made a few comments how colour theory doesn't translate well practically. It's somewhat useful but just use what colours you want to.
I got some fine art test prints (2 different papers) of some of my colour mixes. I uploaded a short which shows it a bit closer. Currently, I test print every painting.
Fine art print reproductions of my original paintings are available from soarpurpose.nz/shop
