The second I make money I’m enrolling in this course. I’m trying to learn Russian by myself, and I’ll probably die before I can read Dostoyevsky.

It's funny that almost every one of these words has one or two or even more diminutives form.

father- папа mother- мама son-сын daughter- дочь grandmother-бабушка grandfather-дедушка grandson-внук granddaughter-внучка это самое основное, что может быть. так же есть - aunt-тетя uncle-дядя nephew- племянник niece- племянница Если вы хотите з сказать "I live with my grandmother" нужно поставить "БАБУШКА" в падеж. я живу С КЕМ? ЧЕМ? С БАБУШКОЙ. КЕМ/ЧЕМ?- вопросы творительного падежа. значит будет окончание с бабушкОЙ. (Я живу с бабушкой)

Probably American viewers will be interested to know that in Russian families children almost never refer to their parents by name. This is considered disrespectful.

In all fairness, most Americans don't even know the English-language terms for more distant relatives, such as first-second-third... cousin once-twice-three times... removed. Does Russian have similar terms for those extended relations, e.g. the way we have great-great-great... for more distant aunts, uncles, and grandparents? My hobby is genealogy, so this is an area of particular interest to me.
@juliab3326
@juliab3326 Жыл бұрын
I can't answer your question but usually Russians don't "distance" themselves from relatives. They call anyone "uncle", "aunt" etc. Specific words probably exist but they're rarely used.
