Talking Bass With Janek Gwizdala - Virtuoso, Educator and Author

This week’s interview was an absolute treat for me as I got to sit down and talk bass with one of my heroes, the incredible bass guitar virtuoso Janek Gwizdala.
Janek has toured and recorded with modern jazz legends such as Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Bob Reynolds, JoJo Mayer and released multiple albums as a solo artist. He’s also a high profile educator and author with a huge online presence both through KZbin and his website.
As a player, Janek is simply incredible both as a traditional groove player and as an improvising soloist. From a soloing standpoint, Janek has developed a beautifully lyrical style of playing and in this interview I delve into how he was able to nurture such a highly developed vocabulary on the instrument.
We also talk in depth about practice in general, the value of transcription and the impact of social media on modern music.

I prefer the eps where you interview people instead of where it's someone else. I don't really understand why someone else is featured as interviewer on your channel. I can't say I've watch a single episode of those. Also, this is your reminder once again to get off Facebook and livestream on a different platform like MeWe, Locals, Bitchute or a plethora of others. And we as your viewing audience can rest assured our data isn't being sold and our privacy isn't being violated.

If I didn’t have anyone else doing interviews they wouldn’t happen. I’ve managed to do a few of the ones I really wanted to do but I don’t have the time to do one every week. Talkingbass is pretty much a 24/7 thing that takes its toll on every part of my life. As for the live streams, I have no interest doing them either. I only do the support group live hangs as customer support.
