Talking Dragon Age: Future Companions

Welcome back to Talking Dragon Age, the show where I talk about Dragon Age. Today, we talk about Companions I would like to see in future Dragon Age installments. This episode took A LOT longer to make than I thought it would. But it's out now and I'm content with how it turned out. Please bear in mind that this is a video of just my ideas. I have honestly no idea what Bioware actually has planned.
I'll make another video dedicated to romances, so that should give me the oppurtunity to expand on things. I just hope that one doesn't take as long to make as this one did.

I would love Dorian to return as a companion or at less an advisor, now as a magister he could help the protagonist deal with the magisterium. And introduce them to the inquisitor.

Hardly will he be a companion. The inquisitor pretty much states that they need new people. He must be a counselor himself.

Darth Portus I was mainly thinking of someone like Renn when I made the video, so I didn't think of Oghren. He would be fun to see return, but I'd rather he have a different role than companion. He'll probably play a large role in the Schism (see my Grey Wardens' Future video). Though, now that I think of it, I think he could be a great companion for that. Still, I would personally rather see a fresh Dwarven face

Completely agree on Harding. What about Feynriel? He was sent in Tevinter in the end of his side quests in DA2, so it would make sense. Also, he's a Dreamer. If not as a companion, I think we'll see more of him in DA4. Then, about Maevaris, I personally think she'll be a companion, either her or Dorian (whom, in my opinion, will be the new Varric, appearing in two games in a row)

I did think of Feynriel, but he wasn't necessarily sent to Tevinter. He could also have been sent to the Circle and/or made Tranquil. But I am certain he will appear if he is sent there

areyouawallflower dragon age has the tradition of letting one companion return in the next game: Oghren, Anders + Justice, Varric. If Tevinter is the new setting then its logical for Dorian to continue the tradition.

I really want Fenris to be in DA4. And not just because he was my favorite romance in DA2. I think he would add a lot to the game. Fenris hates mages because of all the damage and pain they caused. Solas is not just a mage, but the mage who created the veil! Both of them being elves is a bonus and could add depth to the story. Imagine the fireworks the 2 of them meeting would cause! Also, those markings on Fenris skin could give him immunity to Solas power. Or maybe even let Fenris face Solas toe to toe! Plus, I romanced Fenris and Solas, so if they did get into a fight, I would be torn on who to support.

I'd love to see shale come back for the next game. Seeing shales interaction and perspective on the titans would be amazing. Being so full of pride for being a golem, and the internal conflict when learned what golem really are was nice from an otherwise comic relief character.

I would like the following in the next Dragon Age: 1. Fenris or Dorian (or both party banter would be hilarious) 2. Adjacent Darkspawn like you said 3. Female Qunari 4. Tranquiled Mage 5. Desire Demon, that romance possibility 6. A blood mage but was forced to become one (like they did it to save there clan, family, stop a greater evil) and actually tries to use blood magic for good. We always see evil Blood mages or people in Jowan's case

Nice list! I'm so glad there's more than a few similarities to wanted companions. If we go for the typical 9, 3 for each class, there's just a few viewpoints we NEED to see: the Magisterium, the common people, slaves, The Dalish, The Qunari/Tal-Vashoth, Solas-sympathizers, A Grey Warden, and a few that aren't DIRECTLY tied by location but open up the game to new lore, like a Rivaini Seer or an Orlesian

Well if next game is set in Tevinter that opens up possible return of a bunch of characters. Sten - possibly as the new Arishock, leading the fight on the imperium Shale - She went to Tevinter look for a cure to being a golem, so possibly she found her cure and is now you a female dwarf swore and shield tank, that would be so dope Fenris- Just murder rampaging away in Tevinter. Also having his lyrium veins as an advance class would be awesome, since its Tevinter magic that did it. Scout Harding- She is just awesome and needs to be a companion and is pretty much confirmed to be in Tevinter Dorian- he may be more an advisor to new character but id still love it if he could come back and kick some ass with you. Those are just characters i felt would be organic to show up in Tevinter.

I'm shocked you didn't mention Abelas. I think it is very possible we could see him again (even if I think there's an option to kill him). he didn't seem to like Solas at all and he would be a valuable informant. I agree on lace harding making a come back, and I really want to see Fenris at least have a cameo. I think it may be hard to make him a full companion, but you're onto something with his lyrium markings. the look sort of like dalish markings too. I also think we could see Velanna again either on Solas' side or on ours. it's been 10 years game time since we've seen her so she could have changed a lot.

thinking now about Abelas. ... a lot of people have been concerned that you and your party members could leak information to Solas on accident in your dreams. perhaps a role Abelas could have would be teaching those in the party who do dream how to fortify themselves.

Maevaris Tilani would be an interesting companion to have in the next installment. She's a Tevinter mage, a relative to varric, and she along with Dorian did form the Lucerni to restore and redeem Tevinter.

As for Finn, I took it as by the time we had finished our adventure in Witch Hunt, he had developed a taste for adventure. Although he hated getting dirt on his robes he was addicted to the thrill. I am still a little fond of our favorite germophobe. Florian Phineas Horatio Aldebrant, Esquire I miss you, you adorable little thing. I would like to have as a possible companion Leliana's old surviving friend Sketch. Since he has been deeply involved with the game and intrigue all over Thedas I want to see what he has learned and has been up to these 10 years. Did he come across Solas' people? Did he get recruited by Solas' people? That is just plain exciting.

The whole Tal Vashoth thing honestly would be great but I see a Fog Warrior or Fog Dancer would be more likely to be in Dragon Age 4. Also a Circle Mage being a supportive Blood Mage, like instead of using their blood magic to attack, they use it to heal themselves and others

I view him as a plot device more than anything. I can definitely see him having ties to the Seekers attempts to resolve tranquility reversal and low key translating those themes into larger consequences later in the game.

I've been thinking about possible companions for such a long time and it's refreshing to see someone who has similiar ideas. Like Felasan. I found his character absolutely fascinating and I honestly can't think of a better companion to fight against Solas. After all, Felasan was betrayed by Solas. There's only one problem - him being dead. Another character I'd love to see is Anders. Yeah, I know, Hawke could've killed him but since Anders was a mage and he made some friends in the Fade, I thought that some spirit of vengeance could shape itself as Anders, like spirit of compassion did with Cole. I'd love to see Anders again, even though he's a bloody terrorist and that name is totally a coincidence (lul).Another character I actually have been working on, since I write a lot of fanfiction, is a grey warden. But not a typical Warden. I'm talking about a senior Grey Warden woman, who actually does not want to have anything in common with the other Wardens. I guess Bioware could make a character who, after the events at Weishaupt, decides to leave the life of Warden behind, but ultimately can't, of course. I'm thinking about a rogue. Another character, whom I'd like to see again is Maevaris Tilani - the powerful Tevinter mage, mentioned several times throughout the series. I'd love to see another Tevinter Mage, but different than Dorian. I also love your idea of a Tevinter scholar. Spot on there.

Just an idea about the Dalish Warrior idea... I remember either you or Ghil Dirtheran talking about there being Dalish clans that worship the Forgotten ones. What if you're hypothetical Dalish Warrior came from one of those clans. Oh, and LONG LIVE CARVER!

this one is a stretch but an Ancient Elf that has excepted that the her people's time is over and would rather not see the world join them, but unlike Solas who hide who he was she would be up front and the player's diolog with her keeps us questioning is she crazy or not. also something that would play a part in her story is the psychological effects of the veil on her. Also much like Varric she would not be romanceable for obvious reasons.

Not sure if someone has suggested already, but... What if Fenris isn't a companion, but is part of a main/sorta big side quest where he somehow gets the blight or whatever and his lyrium tattoos become red lyrium? I have no idea what could be done beyond that however xD

One of my crack theories is the elf we think of as Solas is actual the Dread Wolf possessing Felssan. I would not be surprised if he also in the past possessed the body of Shartan. I know, the points I've come up with so far are shaky at best. For starters, it would be a great plot twist. Solas and Felssan happen to both have violet eyes. Although with Solas the color is closer to a periwinkle, if you look closely enough, they still fall in the spectrum of purple. There is also talk from Cole of Solas not wanting to take a body but doing so for Mythal. He could have burned Felssan's markings away easily enough off his face. Briala's smiling upon seeing him at the Winter Place. Admittedly is a bit of a stretch but I always got this gut feeling from that scene that they somehow knew one another. The many examples in the artwork of the Dread Wolf as a separate being from an elf we assume is Solas. As for Shartan, it's in his manner of playing the part of an overlooked and nondescript elf not too far away from the real power that was Andraste. His role echos what Solas has done with the Inquisitor. There is also one image of Shartan carrying what looks like an elven foci and his robes echo the landscape in Solas's romanced tarot card. I don't think is a coincidence but a clue.

I really want a tevinter elven mage that has recently gotten into the circle and has to grapple with his recently aquired personal privilege vs his being an elf in a world where most of them are slaves and you get to nudge him in either direction.

I REALLY like the idea a demon companion. The inquisitor wasn't able to make many "evil" decisions, so it would be nice if we could be a horrible person like in origins. I would also like to see Kieran, but I doubt it would happen since he would probably still be pretty young.

So I will put my wish list of 10 companions: M1; Velanna, she's a Warden, Dalish Elf whom would have stories of the Warden-Commander and their quest and makes a return of my 3rd favorite Elf Mage. M2; a Tal-Vashoth Serabas, I imagine him doing the whole warrior poet shtick. M3; I like your Mortalitasi idea. 10/10. BM; Bethany, either having left the wardens(like Anders before her) or not being a warden she is found in Tevinter in search of something. R1; Talis, she can betray the party at a key point and either forgiven or murdered. I would prefer the latter. R2; Scout Harding. Permanent companion. R3; An Elven Freeman of Tevinter. The most nationalistic of the companions. W1; Fenris, Slaver hunter. W2; A Charming Navarran Dragon Hunter, is a reaver. Has Dragon like characteristics. Comicly distantly related to Cassandra. W3; An avvar from the group "Bannished" to tevinter, big Strong Warrior woman. BW; Carver is a warden, either recruited by Stroud in the deep roads or having joined the order in between DAI and Tresspasser found in Weisshupt along side Velanna. Merrill, Nathanial, Oghran, and either Loghain, Alister, or Stroud. I also think our character will choose the new first Warden between Logain Mac Tir, Oghran, Warden Alister and the current First Warden with the warden companions joining after the quest.

i really want Vaea she is such a good character and has so much potential!! plus she is already involved with the inquisition and is heavily featured in the comic books. also she needs to be romanceable. a bad ass elf rogue would be nice plus she is still finding her way in the world and her views on humans and elves in general. she could be the perfect way to introduce the inner conflict many elves will face with the whole the antagonist is a elven god.

I think the Avvar is a definite option. In my personal canons when I sit in judgement, the 'Avvar goat hold smacker' get armed and 'banished' to Tevinter.

Since the default for Hawke is a mage, Carver would probably be the one to show up in DA4 if one of the siblings were to make an appearance. If you go off the defaut world state that is. If we're allowed to use the Dragon Age Keep like we do with DAI, we could probably see Bethany if you decide to make Hawke a warrior or rogue for your playthrough.

Bring back all of the companions, use them on missions in certain countries, Isabella in Rivain, Oghren in places from Origins, Fenris and Dorian together in Tevinter would be fun, do a few missions in Kirkwall with Varric and the Warden. Make the game grand in scale, bring back everyone who is still alive for side quests and main quests. Wrap up this storyline in epic fashion.

I really wanna see an Avar/Chasind companion. We've only really scratched the surface with the Avar culture and religion, but the Chasind barely get a word in during Origins. Like, an Avar warrior or a Chasind shaman would be lit.

A tranquil would be a boring companion... they've lost their personality. Solas probably wouldn't leave Felassan alive at all anyway, he wouldn't risk Briala rediscovering a tranquil Felassan. Also, did you forget Fenris could die? Don't get me wrong, I would love Abelas or Delrin Barris, but you can't actually have real hope for dead companions like our siblings. Also wtf, sibling romance?? Even if we're not Hawke I still find that so weird.

Like I put in, Leliana could have had her head cut off and return, so nothing is inevitable. Also, perhaps Felassan's trainquility was an accident. I don't think Solas would have done it on purpose, but perhaps he didn't know the consequence of killing a dreamer with the Veil in place

A Proud Dalish male warrior, a female Qunari mage or warrior, another rogue dwarf that's an archer, a Tevinter mage, a female grey warden, a spirit companion is also good, maybe a templer, and some other humans. It's the Story of the game that I like the most.

Yes I have wanted a Chasind or Avvar companion or even the chance to play as one since my first Warden reached Lothering. An Ash warrior is also something I want to know more about, but we are getting farther and farther away from Fereldan as the New games are made. Also a Nevarran Mortalitasi Mage I have wanted ever since reading about them in the DA3 codex. You hit on a lot of my favorites in your list. I have been starting to wish that Michel De Chevin was not probably killed if the Inquisitor took the deal with the demon Imshael. I have been a bit enamored of the power of a Chevalier since reading the Masked Empire. I also wished to explore his emotional problems with elves by playing an elven character. Messing with his mind a little (in a good way). But Bioware was cowardly and would not let us explore Cullen's issues with mages in a romance in DA3. I was disappointed in my romance because I wanted to prove to Cullen mages were still good people too ever since I played my first Warden who was an Amell mage. Cullen worked that out on his own and none of my characters got to be involved in his transformation in DA3. I liked the challenge of a rivalry moving into a romance with Fenris and Anders in DA2. I want to Rivalmance Michel and pull him back into the issues City Elves instead of as he was in at the end of The Masked Empire. (This is probably because I finished reading The Masked Empire last week.)

What I liked about Inquisition was that it was a variety of companions. There we still 4 humans (5 if you count Cole) but there was a dwarf, qunari, and 2 elves. So I do think DA4 needs to step it up. Not like in ME where you paid extra for Javik, Kasumi, and Zaaed. Hopefully, we have old companions returning like the surviving Hawke sibling. Or npcs from previous games maybe a older Kieran. As for other companions would like to see them return as villains if we were a dick to them, like Anders or Merrill.

As for Finn the mage rebellion happened so he had to go somewhere. I can see Ariane traveling with Finn I dunno they are both Inquisitive and complement each other well. Besides despite being a Shem Finn knew more about of the Eluvians from the top of his mind that Ariane's keeper. I can see the Dalish having uses for someone like him in their neverending search for forgotten lore.

I have a big hunch that Maevaris will be a companion in the next game. It goes along with Bioware's agenda to have more representation of minorities in their games, as well as including a fascinating and intriguing character from the Imperium.

A proud Dalish male warrior, Qunari female warrior or mage, another dwarf archer, a skillful rich mage female or male, a spirit companion is really good, and some humans are good companions to have.

Hi, I just started watching your Dragon Age videos and I'm really impressed by your process and theories - definitely had a few "WHAT?! WHOA!" moments. I also appreciate the shout out to girltriesgames. I hope she will be making more videos soon because I certainly enjoyed her tinfoilly theories as well. I really hope you make a Relationships video, there is a lot to unpack there and a lot of knots connecting knots. I imagine drawing strings from character to character, and making a giant web of interpersonal relationships. I hope you will dive into the feminism behind the improved development in relationship building. DA2 was a big improvement on the ground work set in DA:O (but sidenote, I miss the gift giving in DA:O, silly I know, it's a flat and uninteresting system, but I still liked it). Relationships and friendships became more fluid and complicated (culture of consent vs culture of coercion) in DA:I which is great because we see this development alongside a greater effort to include more diverse characters. I expect DA4 to raise the bar even higher. Anyway, I hope to see a video about it all soon. Also, I love that your examples of normal people are Varic and Sera!

Sarah Marie James Thank you so much for your comment! =D I always smile when I see one like this. I'll be honest, I liked giving gifts, too. I don't know what it is, but something about it really appealed to me. I definitely plan to make a romance/relationships video soon. I have a lot to say on them. Seeing how different characters progress depending on your relationship with them is definitely a high point of Dragon Age for me. Thanks again for your comment! =D

I doubt Bethany or Carver will return as companions, since they can die, Bioware may bring some people back that have the possibility of dying, but never as companions.

I want Samson and Calpernia as companions in the next game, give them a chance to repent for their sins and do some good. Plus, neither of them actually die... though Calpernia jumps off a cliff if you defeat her instead of convincing her to go back to Tervinter but her death isn't confirmed. As for Samson, he is either captured or in the wilderness somewhere after failing Cory.

Marius: Warrior - Templar (although I would like new classes for warriors, the most natural is that he is Templar since he is a magekiller). Ser Aaron: Warrior - guardian or sentinel (a class more defensive but different from the champion of inquisition). Qunari femea: Warrior - tal vashot - fog warrior ? or an innovative class for warriors. I find it interesting to apply spear mechanics as a new type of weapon for warriors. Although it is complicated to bring a companion (protagonist too) qunari to tevinter. Vael: Rogue - could be a poison-oriented class or could bring the ranger back. Tessa: Rogue - assassin dwarf male: a male dwarf but that is very different from the varric. It could be a dwarf spy, cruel, sarcastic and controversial. It could have the class of inflitrator (but worked differently). Calpernia: Blood magic - it would be great to have a tevinter mage like her in the patry and see things from her perspective since she was an antagonist in the inquisition. Her class could be the one of blood magic and could work the reactivity that this class demands. And still could work a love triangle between calpernia - marius - protagonist. I think calpernia is a much better mage choice than maeveris. Male nevarra mage: A mage with the ritualistic class. A mage a little controversial, mysterious and who seems to know more than he looks (a bit like solas). Your class would involve using rituals to give buff and debuff. Male elf mage. It could be a grey warden or some mage who has a certain relationship to soles (be it friendship or rivalry) and would help us on our journey. Arcane warrior class or any other class of combat melee (war mage ?).

I also think that the more companions. 10 0r 15 with be great maybe having one or two of them die on a mission with to bring more dept

Besides Harding the next best companion would be for Dorian to return as a companion. In Trespasser the Imperium was hinted as the next setting and Dorian returns to Tevinter after Inquisition. The groundwork has already been set for him as a companion. Another good choice would be Rhys and Evangeline. Rhys and Evangeline were two of the main characters in the Dragon Age novel Asunder. Morrigan would also be a good returning character as a companion, and I'm not saying that just because she's my favorite character.

I think Anders was supposed to represent a spirit turn demon because "human" (yes elves are human) interference, they botched it up and tried Solas' wisdom turn pride

-Dragon Age 4 character wish list- -Fenris (Two handed sword-good and changed perspective on mages or not depending on DA2 choices and friendship or rivalry with default mage hawke-would be trying to figure out mages further if he had no changed perspective towards the end of DA 2) -Merrill (Mage-Turns against group in favor of Solas towards end) -Bethany (Former Warden Mage-likely met with hero of ferelden to reverse calling sometime after mage rebellion) -Hero of Ferelden (Sword and Shield-appearance depends on DA O choices) -Sten (Two handed Sword) -Playable Character (Tevinter Slave-manner of slave depends on race, mages are not slaves but rather independent thinkers who almost take after Dorian in beliefs-raised by Tevinter historian mage) -Dwarf Companion (more than likely a warrior or rogue) -Spirit companion (old spirit mage or rogue that's very old and is a spirit of hope; possibly young ancient elf at time of death; meet midway through game if not sometime before) While most of these companions are older companions, it would add an interesting dynamic between all of these characters rather than unnecessarily making up a bunch of new characters with recycled personalities. I think that rather than recycling character traits into newer characters, older characters that have grown and changed since Origins and 2 should be re introduced with fresh perspectives after the events of Inquisition (while some perspectives like Merril's and Bethany's are essentially the same for the most part)

Yes to Scout Harding being a companion. I would also like to see Maevaris be a companion. Along with Evangeline from Asunder, I think she could fill the spirit role, since she hosts Wynne's Spirit of Faith. For returning companions I'd love to see some Awakening companions comeback like Nathaniel, Sigrun and Velanna. Though I'm curious if your Dalish companions would side with Solas. Fenris I can definitely see coming back since we're heading to Tevinter. Sera is another companion I would like to comeback. I was thinking Tallis could fill a Stroud's role in Inquisition, like depending on your choice in DA2 it'd be her or Isabela. For new people, Id like to see a romanceable dwarf not carta(whether it's Harding or another), and a tal-vashoth preferably a mage. Also a n independent Darkspawn companion would be awesome, plus I'd remind us of the Architect.

Talis was also the point of contact with the war table for ben-hasira if you sided with the Qunari and let let the Chargers die in Inquisition.

The Kingdom: I did on a few of my playthroughs. It wasn't heartless really. It was tactical. An alliance with the whole Qunari, versus a handful of soldiers? Yeah, I choose to let the Chargers die a few times, even on my characters that weren't complete renegades.
