I really like this, and completely agree with your observations of envy vs desire, and compassion vs despair and nightmare. I'd like to hear more on your opinion of Hakkon, I personally think he's a spirit of Valor that grew into something greater from all veneration by the Avvar

Have to admit...a video about spirits, demons, and how we can see spirits be corrupted by what they experience in the mortal world seems highly prescient considering we literally see a normally calm and gentle Cole be slowly corrupted by the trucks into a rage as the video goes on. Like.... I know you wrote a hilarious banter with a god of secrets, but you can't write something as on point as what actually transpires in this video.

Perhaps the simple demons are consumed by their demonic type, but the powerful, more complex demons are more in control of themselves, such that they can focus on strategically inspiring rage in their victims, instead of just hulking out. Perhaps we've simply yet to encounter a truly powerful Rage Demon (one that exudes a Berserker pheromone that makes everybody ELSE go Hulk & smash it all up). Or maybe the truly powerful rage demons are just red smurfs with anger guns

I think that what turned Justice into Vengence was Anders' hate, if it was just anger it wouldn't have been such a drastic change, because as you said, Hatred is one of the most powerfull emotions there are.

Explain his/its drive for Vengeance against all the Darkspawn in Awakening...Including the ones that seek peace and if the Warden says yes and can't convince Justice it's right he/it tries to murder you. He/it was becoming or was Vengeance in Awakening pre merge.

With retrospect of solas i think the first sloth demon you encounter in the mage origin was a demon of sloth/spirit of wisdom seeing as the reason it asked all of those riddles.

I think defining spritis and demons as "benevolent" and "malevolent" might be a bit inaccurate. I'd say its more like demons are "parasitic" and spirits just.... exist. Demons rely on people for their own gain, at the expense of their "host", whereas spirits generally keep to themselves in the Fade just embodying what they represent. Sure, they'll help if you seek them out or are in the Fade in peril, but that's not their primary purpose. Though I suppose if demons are parasitic, maybe spirits are symbiotic, though I'm not sure how often spirits actually seek out people and help them unless they're in the Fade already. most of the times we've seen this seems to have been exceptions, not rules. Or actively summoned by people (like the Avvar.)

Cole, I've just thought of something. Remember that Dragon Age 4 promo image of the black city being breached? The one with Corypheus on one side and Meredith on the other? With the "Moonhead" figure? And how the image depicts a wolf with multiple eyes breaking through the veil into the fade and black city? The eyes of the wolf look like the multiple eyes of a Pride demon. It could indicate that Solas or Fen'Harel is the original Pride Demon or a very powerful Pride demon. Don't know if you can do anything with that or possibly if you've heard it before and it's already be debunked. Either way still loving the videos bud😂👍

Also got to bear in mind how it is artwork, therefore the decision to depict the wolf tearing down the veil looking like a pride demon was intentional.

I'd argue that the demons are more *intelligent* the more complex their concept, not more powerful - deciding wether they will mindlessly attack you or talk to you/try to trick you.

Looking at the argument for determining how powerful demons are, I’m zeroing in on the idea that more demons of more complex emotions have more territory in the Fade. I think that’s what actually determines power level. We see weak and strong spirits of all types in each game. So a Rage Demon that’s born of someone’s childhood grudge would be far weaker than a Rage Demon that encompasses say… tortured Mages of a Circle? So Pride demons are typically more powerful because there’s a lot of complexity that creates Pride. Looking at Solas’s friend, the Spirit of Wisdom, it became a pretty powerful Pride demon likely because of the knowledge it represented and the territory it held in the Fade. So we see a bunch of fear demons of varying strength throughout Inquisition but then we see the big one, Nightmare. I think that an entity that represents the fears and horrors related to the Blight would of course be something immensely powerful and that would hold a lot of territory. While the concept of the Blight is simple, the fears of an entire continent over generations of pain would certainly birth something complex and powerful. IDK That’s my interpretation of the complex = power comment

Demons aren't simply the opposite of a spirit though. It's more of a complicated twisting of an emotion. A demon of grief would be the twisted version of a spirit of love.

My theory: spirits (and demons) are immortal aspect of the elves, who were separated from their physical bodies when Solas created the veil.

I like this. Though a valor spirit that is perverted against its nature would be dread. So if Dread wolf was an insult to Solas it must be something personal. Which for a valor spirit it would be. Someone leading a army of slaves in revolt yeah sounds like a spirit of valor. Also he serves mythal a god (spirit) of justice. Yeah i can imagine valor serving justice. No what always goes with valor and justice would be wisdom. Now i believe wisdom would be June i also believe hes the betrayal that hurt myrhal. The reason when wisdom falters justice suffers. Also they have always being lying about wisdom becoming pride. Wisdom would become madness. Think of thanos the mad titan. He says to Tony you are also burdened with wisdom. After all wisdom is rare so is it genius. Genius and madness are opposite sides ofnyhe same coin.

Probably the codex entries can be thought of as human perspective, and so unreliable. So they can be wrong and the lore can be expanded. That's how I see it. But I think just how there is more to "spirits" , as can talk and socialise. So the same is probably true of demons we just might not have seen much off it yet.
