To me, Byrne's Aspergers is the key to the uniqueness and quirkiness of Talking Heads, and his solo stuff that followed. Wonderful that we can all benefit from his genius and talent, as well as the unique contributions from other members of the band, and so wonderful that younger people like you guys are having such a great reaction to this and the other tracks you react to. Great that you're going to go back and watch it all together. Felt so bad to see that you had to stop in between the songs for the sake of the KZbin videos; breaks the build-up of energy that you'll get from watching it all at once. Thanks, guys. Wonderful.

I was in the house at Halloween 1996 when Phish covered the entire Talking Heads album, Remain in Light as a “musical costume”. This song was the standout and has found its way into the band’s regular rotation (as well as forever affecting their style of playing into more of a rhythm/funk group). It might be fun to react to one of their versions of this song as well.

Saw this movie at a midnight movie when it first came out int '84. Not a person was left in their seat by the end, as everyone was up dancing in the aisles. Great experience. I have the VHS special version of this with the 4 extra songs (like I Zimbra, Cities...) put into the lineup (not as bonus tracks like on the DVD).

This finale song is from the album REMAIN IN LIGHT,an absolute landmark album, and earlier today I was listening to an interview with Chris and Tina in which Tina explained that they wanted to play songs with a 2-chord structure opposed to the standard 3-chord structure of most pop tunes and make the songs rise and fall in variation through instrumental voices and rhythm to achieve a sonic tribal soul based on pulse and motion. I knew it instinctually listening to it I suppose and that sort of intellectualizes it a bit even though it feels totally intuitive and emotional listening to it. What do you think? Great series of vids. Thank you. Really enjoyed checking out STOP MAKING SENSE with you. Cheers!

@@SightAfterDark the outtakes from when this was on vhs were “cities” which was included in this and you already watched it, and a David Byrne solo tune called “big business” which segues into a killer version of “I zimbra” which you know from “fear of music”. This song and Once in a Lifetime are both from Remain in Light, an album that many consider to be their "masterpiece". It's pretty experimental and doesnt sound like anything else in their discography. It features the brilliant guitarist Adrian Belew (this is who they're channeling during the guitar solos)

@@SightAfterDark you gotta check out “remain in light” it’s like they continued their progression after “fear of music” and created an amazingly experimental and influential album. The one after that was the album “speaking in tongues” which they were supporting with this tour that’s why a lot of the songs from SMS are from that record so you if you guys do that album you’ll already know the live versions of most of the songs. Their progression as a band from album to album is up there with the Beatles and Bowie. They just kept changing and getting more interesting

This song is my favorite of all their stuff, I think it's brilliant, it is a little underrated. I got lots of facets of life from it though. It's about losing trust in the scientific life and giving yourself to faith in the universe, giving up on "facts" that hold us back, even the "message from the oxygen", working form hindsight...... I love to see how people respond!
@TimoVERSION3 жыл бұрын
Give thanks for checking out this song, too poorly known for being so great. As it is with Reactions, I share your joy. I also wanted to emphasize, as did Mr. Jewell and others, that the beautiful and joyful experience of this live version originates in the very original and important Remain In Light album. Despite hearing the live versions first (!) I add my voice to the strong suggestion you'd be interested in their artistic breakthrough. I would also advocate for hearing the album version in original order. There was a hit (Once In A Lifetime), and in fact there were several videos made for the album, but the album music itself is the much better introduction; Remain In Light is raw, the source, a discovery. There are also the European tv bootleg videos of their equally ground-breaking and astonishing tour for that album. THEN check out the video for Once In A Lifetime- it's fun and well-known. :) An album and several years later finds us here, with a refined and focused (but still thrilling) Stop Making Sense and it's exuberant choreography and staging, quite a celebration of life. Remain In Light was how that joy engine got started started and is understood to be, even these years later, one of the very great albums in rock. And I may have mentioned it before, but there's this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqK3qpmDedN-Y80 much cheers timo

Maybe you knew this already, but David Byrne is a visual artist too. Installments or installations I think it's called in English. Pretty "dada". I saw a few somewhere on the internet a few years back. A vintage stove dressed up like a lady in old fashion flowery clothing was one of those., really funny and absurd.

Such a terrific movie, wonderful that you enjoyed it as well. I know you get a lot of reaction requests, so I don't expect you to do this one, but you seemed to be like me - left wanting more! On the VHS and DVD editions of Stop Making Sense, there were two extra songs added - one of them was Cities, which you've already seen. The other was a song called "Big Business / I Zimbra", a medley of a solo David Byrne song for a dance project called The Catherine Wheel, and the opening number to Fear Of Music, of which you've reacted to the studio version. If you want one more encore for Stop Making Sense, here it is - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYqpopeohLKkoZY.

Stop Making Sense gets all the press, but Live in Rome 1980 is a better concert. They had a much harder funk rock edge, and hadn't been dulled by the 80s yet. The live version of Cross-eyed and Painless is far superior, not that this version isn't great. It's worth looking out for it on KZbin.
