It’s amazing how Alan managed to turn some instructional training videos into such a hugely successful KZbin channel. Good for him! I hope your channel will enjoy the same levels of success Loz. I subscribed last year when you were putting out the Vlogs at Worlds Strongest Man and you really do put out some of the best Strongman content on KZbin. No click bait, no bitching about other athletes or federations, you don’t even make it about you most of the time, just good wholesome Strongman content. Thank you!
@proboz4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Always insightful, gives perspectives from all facets (coach, athlete, promoters, spectators etc), no drama, very eloquent, and always has fantastic interviews. Best strongman channel on YT.

Strongman kind of reminds me a little of the UFC in terms of evolution. They both started out as spectacles and slowly become more legit sports by incorporating more standards and rules.

Alan Thrall is the man I advise people to listen to and watch on KZbin if they want to learn how to perform the basic lifts. His tutorials are second-to-none, his knowledge and presentation skills are amazing, and I just have never seen him inflate his ego onscreen or peddle BS. Alan Thrall is the real deal.

56:30 Totally agree. Thor retired, Martins is out. Big deal. Still have a prime Mateusz, prime Luke Stoltman, Tom (looks tremendous compared to last year), Richardson (fresh off Europe's), Singleton (who looks fucking ridiculous lately), Bishop (running high off his British win), Novikov (explosive and hungry), Shivlyakov (always a threat to split up standings), Janashia (who's dangerous when healthy) and JF (Mr. Consistency). You can't tell me the field isn't fucking stacked this year.

I like the Strongman Roulette Competition idea, a winner would have to be more well-rounded than in WSM, and wouldn't spend any of their training trying to optimise for any subset of events so might ultimately get more from their training

Watching as I comment... I'm interested to see. Thanks Loz! I've seen some of Alan's videos but haven't seen enough to understand where he's coming from so I expect this to be even better... hearing directly from a person rather than judging. I'll took some of his content on the surface as not holding strongman and powerlifting in very high regard, but I could be wrong, so now I will learn... Marine - stock just went way up... Loz mentioned Alan's "1995" video... this was one I saw and just learned I took wrong. You learn something every day... I just wish it wasn't so often... Anyway, I always look forward to your content, and come away learning a lot. This was no exception. This was great and you've given me new eyes to see Alan through. Thanks for that Loz. As always, a great video. And it's time to go and watch more of Alan's content, too. Keep 'em coming!

Interesting point. WSM should make sure both kinds of strength are tested every year: - Second event in the heats should be kept secret, using an exclusive awkward set up for that year only (Natural unbalanced log, Odd stones without tacky, Mas wrestling, Random historical feat of strength, Old WSM events from 80's, maybe even heavy shot puts for distance...). Natural brute strength wins, you can't really prepare for it, nobody knows how to approach the implement or the right technique. - Second event in the finals should be a standardized strongman event for max weight, 3 attempts per athlete. Athletes should know about this event much earlier than all the others and with all the details of the set up so that they are 100% ready for heavy weights and their bodies are ready to sustain it without injuries. Most of the times this should be a static event, but once in a while a very heavy moving event for small distance would be interesting (lift is good once 4 meters are completed without stopping the truck/farmers/yoke..., athletes choose the weights). Tests maximum strength potential. Other events should not be standardized and athletes should know what the events are, but not every thing about the set up, so that they prepared but also rewarding the one who adapts better

I started gong the gym for the "normal reasons"- get rid of the flab and actually be able to fit into clothes. So a few months of cardio and then got a trainer- onto General Fitness, which was hard. Then I noticed those nice big black wheels in "the other section" The minute I picked up a barbell , was hooked. 58 years old, one busted shoulder, two very dodgy knees and a 20 cigar a day habit was possibly not an ideal start point? I now just love to Deadlift..... My (new ) girlfriend appreciates the buns of steel. I still smoke 20 cigars a day, but God I am Happy. Love Alan's videos because its just plain Fun.
