True words but my computer don't allow me to use some of these libraries so I have to reinvent the wheel each time it's actually fun. Lol.

I always like your videos Dave (including this one) though I've always wondered your take on how difficult it is for someone to get a software engineering/programming job without a degree (assuming they have all the necessary skills) I think I've heard you mention things similar to this in the context of self-teaching and such-but never this question specifically.

Adam Alpha had a really great comment. I'll try to add. I'm not sure how to answer your question about difficulty-everything is going to be difficult. What I can tell you though, is that your options are more limited if you do this without a degree. Don't expect to be able to apply to the top tier companies / jobs and be on the same playing field as people who've received high degrees in engineering. Perhaps you are equally qualified if you've worked incredibly hard on your own, but they still will have a leg up. The paper and the experience of school counts for something. So, if you're doing this without getting a degree, you must realize that you can't be as selective of where you work. With that said, I still think you can land a job since the demand is so high. Once you land a job, hopefully that turns into a platform where you level up and get the platform you need to move onto more things.

I have a degree in philosophy and I hit senior dev at Nike after only 3 years.

Be careful, your situation isn't the same as everyones. Your tone makes this sound too "easy". For anyone reading this, also don't take the word "senior" too seriously. The word is diluted these days in my opinion. I wish there was a better word, but I don't think our community has one.

I agree, and to clarify I basically had no life for those 3 years. I was playing catch up in life (I was 27) so I coded 14 hours a day, after work I kept working. I coded on weekends to improve, etc... Senior really doesnt mean senior, it really just means that you shine brighter than the people around you in my experience, and you can write code at any level of the stack. The key for me was that I actually loved coding, so it wasn't so hard for me to work that hard, for others it may be much more difficult. At this point for me, I don't work as much.. I got a little burned out over that time. Senior pay is nice though.
