Keep in mind that free trial players can't /tell, and sprouts may not understand what that is in general. Might be part of the reason why people weren't talking :D

I'm a sprout that started just a couple weeks ago and now that I know how friendly this community is, I feel bad for not talking more lol. Frankly, it's a natural gamer instinct to expect ppl to be jerks so I tend to avoid talking to players unless necessary.

Many many many instances have been documented of people being banned for really trivial stuff, so I would talk a lot as a sprout and no one would ever say anything because of the fear of being banned. They dont want people to bully sprouts so they give them better security, so people just end up not talking at all, silent as a graveyard.

I think what makes it tougher to communicate in passive channels like say is I might not realize someone is chatting with me. I'm surprised chat bubbles aren't a thing vanilla because they are so helpful.

Nah if you want sprouts, you have to go to The Waking Sands out by Horizon. Idk if Stormblood and onwards ever goes back there, but once the scions move they pretty much abandon the place. So that would be a guaranteed sprout place. Meanwhile Mor Dhona is purely for the story, everyone usually shows up and leave, or get something and then leave. Oh and Costa Del Sol, Outside of event stuff, There's not really any good reason to go there except for a good place to afk for a quick break. Plus it's home to the longest bit of filler in ARR.

FFXIV was my first MMO, and I was too used to co-op in games w/o voice chat. When people would emote or tell @ me, it's ingrained in me to just jump or spin in place in response. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same with sprouts who get anxious over chat

I remember someone saying that the reason the XIV community is so "nice" compared to others is because in other games, you have all these seperate communities, and in XIV, it's just one - the horny one. The real reason is the philosophy of the developers actually. The senior devs have played many other MMO's, plus add the fact that Japanese are usually always polite and reserved, they ENFORCE the nice behavior within the community because they are aware that if the devs dont put their foot down you end up with toxic community like wow.

Most sprouts are probably not using addons for chat bubbles so they are harder to notice. Whispers are more reliable since it also has a sound notification by default. Plus they probably left their characters in cities while they were busy doing RL stuff.

A few nights every week i take whatever gil I made and whatever i can from GC trade ins and don my special glam, The Lucky Chicken of Gridania. I welcome sprouts to the game, give them some nice gifts in the form of minions and mounts and see if they need anything. People on my server have no begun donating gil and items towards this endeavour and it has honestly made it a better place overall.

As a sprout that has asked my fc elders a million questions and has been watching guides and stuff, I feel like I have a better grasp of some of the game than some of these vets. As a sprout sometimes I have to explain boss mechanics to players who should know what the hell theyre doing because theyve played the game a lot longer than I have. I may be new but Ive spent a lot of time trying to learn everything in the game, and some people cleary have made no effort to learn the game at all.

I occasionally went to run around starter zones during rain and hunt down sprouts (without veteran rewards or anything indicating them being alts), so that I could tell them to be careful and not catch a cold. I would trade them an umbrella, and it is surprising how terrible the results were. Some simply ignored me, while others did acknowledge me through that brought the situation to another hurdle. Many could not type since they were on a trial, so trading was out of the question, and the few I actually managed to give an umbrella to.. Well let's say 1 out of 3 would actually use it and wear it even for a second, the rest would just say "thanx" and run lol. But I understand why this is happening. They are in a whole new world, likely overwhelmed or excited about playing, perhaps even intimidated by high level players. We were all sprouts once!

I hunt for sprouts with some friends dressed as chocobos to give away minions and other stuff, I had a mostly positive experience and even made some friends that way. Some just need reassurance that it is in fact, a gift, and you do not want anything in return and they will gladly accept it and thank you. The few negative experiences I had were with people who turned out to be old players with their alts, one even threatened to report me for trying to give him a minion, a mount, and a few cookies...

I’ve got firion’s outfit and I’m still a “sprout” - only post-hw despite playing for several months. Just do lots of side content! The sprout identifier definitely has a ton of breadth but all the sprouts deserve care and support ☺️

Fun fact : being a sprout does not necessarily mean being new to this game. I'm have almost all jobs leveled up to 60 with anima weapons and all shit. I've been to all heavensward duties (including savages and extremes). Palace of the dead soloed, masked carnivals cleared, etc. And I'm still a sprout. Because I'm a Free Trial player, that cannot complete lvl70 MSQ and /nastatus command also doesn't work for me ;)

So, Im a sprout level 65, and I love this game so much already. But why on Earth would they not have chat bubbles? Like seriously, what is the Logic? Its such a joke to me that you will be banned for downloadning an addon to get chat bubbles. Its really hard to miss what people say, as a new player. And all of this rp going on, it would be much easier to see who’s talking and from where…. Will I get banned if I get the addon for it? I really want chat bubbles. This is probably the only mmorpg in the world who does not have it and its so weird…
