Gotta have some humor to keep your spirits up - especially when your crusade of destruction is to purge the cosmos of other life not out of hatred, but a deep hurt and fear that's both cultural and genetic. ("My ancestors scream within the chambers of my mind." Genetic memory. The Ur-Quan still *individually remember the atrocities visited upon them* .)

@@wormwoodbecomedelphinus4131 And they remember suffering the near-lethal pain of the Excruciator. They will never forget. They can never forget. Everything they do is because of trauma that they were born with, that they will die with, and that they will spawn new generations with. The only species that could help them is the Umgah. And they're not nearly stupid enough (even beyond their intense traumatic xenophobia) to let Umgah play with their genetic memories.

It would be kind of a cool story if a race accepted, basically saying "OK, but we kill ourselves last" and see if they can catch up to the Kohr Ah technology level before they finish killing everything else.

I don't think any story gets more terrifying than when your main antagonist honestly pleas you to RUN.

What I liked about the Kzer-Za was they were more complex than just lets be a villain. They actually fear for you at this point. Ultimately they're just scared. Scared of the enslavement of the past, but also not wanting to just murder off everyone as they'd been made to in the past. They are fundamentally devastated at this point.

The genuine dread of the situation and dialogue changes the tone of the Kzer-za's theme entirely. It feels less like the theme of a powerful, unstoppable adversary that commands respect to "You are doomed. The end is coming to all."

Yeah, the only thing i still can't seem to find is the dialogues the other species use in the death march, when they're facing extinction.

So if I understand this right, the Kzer-Za have the worst end of the deal. If they win, the Kohr-Ah have already destroyed the races in the region of space. They can't subjugate or 'save' any races from themselves. But if they lose then all the races they have subjugated/saved will die. So for the Kzer-za to ever actually save anyone they need to *always* win, a uphill battle always.

The Kzer-Za would have won this and every other Doctrinal Conflict if not for ending up being the ones to battle the Alliance of Free Stars, and especially if the Shofixti hadn't wiped out a huge chunk of the Kzer-Za fleet by triggering a nova in their star with the fleet in orbit. That's kind of a good thing though provided the protagonist wins in time: otherwise the Doctrinal Conflict would likely have been over quickly and the Kzer-Za would have been able to devote their full resources to maintaining control of their vassals and orbital platforms, preventing the New Alliance from ever happening.

@@darthcloakedguy9726 And yet, it's also made clear, the Alliance's refusal to go down peacefully (outside the Yehat) is what would doom them in the end, as the Kohr-Ah would be too much for the weakened Kzer-Za Fleets to handle. The Kzer-Za also have to rule over half a galaxy, they can't be everywhere at once.

Implying the Captain probably cap the Sa-Matra at the end of the Doctrinal Conflict, this would probably damaged Ur-Quan ideology as a whole. Kzer-Za and Kohr-Ah​ both views Aliens as threat if united than themselves, but they do differs in how to react to this. Seeing an determined part of an enslaved species, destroying an space WMD after an exhausting race civil war will not only demoralized the Ur-Quan but also broke their doctrines. Maybe we see the Ur-Quan as a whole, not only the Kzer-Za just given up like the Free Stars trailer tell us.@@Drave_Jr.

@@BTG514 Actually it is not that bad to be their slaves since they actually take good care of their slaves, they even found the ideal planet for the Sirens, and did you not notice how free their battle thralls actually are, doing whatever they want until they cause harm to others or themselves? They even killed the Thraddash war lords in order to save the Thraddash specie from self-extinction, I wish we humans had such benevolent masters to stop us from auto-destructing at last. I actually love the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za, only the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah are not benevolent and dangerous.

@@Maxime_Martyr They also bombed Earth and destroyed basically all of its historical landmarks with intent of trying to suppress the idea of human nationalism to emerge and fight back against them. They're not benevolent, they're still terrified by the psychically embedded trauma of the war against the Dnyarri, and that leads them to make oppressive decisions. They're just restrained compared to the Kohr-Ah. Besides, there is no form in which slavery is an acceptable state of being for anyone, no matter how "well taken-care of" they are. The Kzer-Za are absolutely still villains, they're just not genocidal.

The Doctrinal War ends on 17 February 2159, or 2160 if you got the Utwig and Supox to attack the Kohr-Ah only (they bought you time)

@@longtoe The Thraddash do not, they are that weak they are more of an "annoyance". There is a way you can (by proxy) use the Thraddash to prolong the Death March though, and that's when the Ilwrath are being attacked by the Kohr-Ah. If you tell the Ilwrath to attack the Thraddash as the Kohr-Ah are on their way to wipe them out, they will follow the Ilwrath up to the north of the galaxy giving you some time.
