Mark, thanks for another fun lesson and for demystifying your opening slap line. What you said about being able to hear common slap figures in other peoples slap lines by playing them yourself is so true. Slap lines, especially with a lot of ghost notes used to seem like all smoke and mirrors to me until I got a little skill in playing them myself. Now my ears can pick out many parts relatively easily. Thank you for such wonderful videos.

I didn't know what a ghost note was till I saw a bass tab video of Soul with a Capital S. I'm hooked, now. Percussive additions - neat!

Can someone confirm...about 7:30 min in you mention that it's easier fast (and I agree) but I believe in the lick at the beginning when played fast you leave out a ghost note (x) and high D on G string popped (7th fret). I actually like it better this way than the ghost (x), D, ghost (x), D as written in the sheet music on your website. Thanks as always Mark, love your material.

Now that you mention it. How do you make some triplets and quadruplets slap and muting. I'm aware of some like you've shown but Tommy the Cat would be nice to figure out. Not sure if it's exactly the techniques you've covered in other lesson.

Hey, do you think you could do a video on how to play the bass riff for "Longview" by Green Day?
@bobanalhair16228 жыл бұрын
When you slap you seem to have your thumb parallel with the strings, whereas when I do it, my thumb is almost at a right angle with the strings. I can slap brilliantly on the E string and pretty well on the A (if I use my palm to mute the E) but I am hopeless on the D string. Is there any way around this or should I try and re-learn slapping using this technique.
@markbass3549 жыл бұрын
Mark how close and where do you keep your little finger above the neck for ghost notes. I can't seem to get the snap to sound right , but have no problem slapping a ghost note. Do you let the string hit the middle of your little finger or the tip. Thank you for this , it's a blast to play and put in my own fills , if I can only get the pull correct and the snap of a ghost note to sound correct , mine sound well wet , I don't know the word to use.
@talkingbasslessons9 жыл бұрын
+Mark S B. Pretty much the middle. Use the whole hand for the ghost notes. The first finger will also be laid across.

it isn't very hard to impress people with slap bass. Its always few sets of triplets played fast to hide the real simplicity of the riffs. at least we got that going. Cant compete with a guitar as a bass player in solo department
@talkingbasslessons9 жыл бұрын
+Feras Boulala I don't think impressing people should be on any list of priorities. People might be impressed by some slap licks but it should have no place in the mind of the musician playing the licks.
