Changi has been nominated World's best airport for the 7th time and there's a clear reason why! The number of flights it oversees every year is close to 400,000 and houses a swimming pool, world's biggest slide, world's largest indoor waterfall, more than 400 shopping outlets and whatnot!
So while Singapore's Changi International Airport remains one of Asia's most significant air transportation hubs that passengers often love for its unique facilities, the airport has also become a rather ground-breaking tourist attraction located within the airport site.
Here are things about this iconic airport that you will be surprised to know!
1. The Wonderfall
This digital waterfall cascades among lush green walls to create a mesmerizing, calming spectacle. It’s like entering a magical gate or a portal to another world. But do you know its with 3D modelling, simulation and computer graphics, that the animation for The Wonderfall came together. It had to simulate water movement as accurately and naturally as possible, including the flow, fluidity and granularity, including misting elements. It was a total of 4 years of hard work and precision building that brought to life this gorgeous Wonderfall at T2
2. The Dream Escape Garden
Within the departure transit area, a brand-new garden - Dreamscape, mesmerises with its enchanting array of plants amid a meticulously landscaped backdrop, brought alive by a ‘digital sky’ which changes its hues depending on the time of day. The digital sky is a 32 x 12 meter LED ceiling above this transit garden. When in ambient mode, it offers a sense of the time of day and weather in Changi. This is done through real-time sky simulation fed with local weather data that generate corresponding content. The soundscape, played on 19 hidden speakers, evolves throughout the day and with the prevailing weather conditions.
3. The Jewel & Vortex
Step out of the airport right into a lush green sanctuary, a tranquil retreat in the core of the world's best airport! Head to the Shiseido Forest Valley and experience the SENSE installation at the Shiseido Forest Valley’s west trail, with dancing lights illuminating the trees, soothing music playing in the background, and the signature scent of SHISEIDO Ultimune, your senses will be truly delighted. Cool mists being sprayed, the scent of the valley plus the music, all of it together is just nothing short of MAGICAL!!
Of course there are over at least over 50 more attractions at this iconic airport that require a gooood walking around to explore since they are spread across terminals. That’s why I’ve spent 12 hours at Changi and done a detailed video to let you know of most of the experiences here that can be done free of cost and where they are located, so it can save you time!!
