If you tax private schools you need to tax universities and all tuition related schools that charge. It’s all or nothing views?

It costs the state 6k per privately educated pupil and that's just the top line it doesn't include tax avoided by gift aid, Sunak has gifted Winchester more than 100,000 of which they can claim 20k fom the government. Plus the ones near me are full of foreign students it's a business

It will have very little effect on numbers the people who can afford the eye watering fees currently paid aren't particularly price sensitive

Why should parents of private school students sit in the parliament making decisions for those going to state schools?

How many schools are there in the UK? ... There are currently 32,163 schools in the UK. This number is made up the combined totals of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are 20,778 state-funded primary schools, 27 middle schools, 4,175 state-funded secondary schools or post-primary schools, 2,572 independent schools and 1,609 special or alternative provision settings. In England and Wales, a public school is a type of fee-charging private school originally for older boys. They are "public" in the sense of being open to pupils irrespective of locality, denomination or paternal trade or profession; nor are they run for the profit of a private owner.

I am sorry that some people won’t be able afford the vat increase for private schools But I watched a program recently made by panorama on the state of our state schools children having to wear outdoors coats because the heating doesn’t work having to wear gloves in class because they are so cold So until the condition of our state schools improves I am very sorry that a few cannot afford the increase in Vat I would have loved to have sent my children to a private school but I couldn’t afford it We did manage to get them to university where one of my children came out with an 8k debt and the other came out with a debt of over £30k because of the change in university fees I didn’t hear or see anyone claiming that this was wrong What did the tories say when there was a huge increase in the cost of living’’get another job’’ or buy supermarket brands That’s life

Yes rich ppl can buy whatever they want. Just pay the right vat tax. Poor ppl pay tax on necessities.

Not everyone who goes to private school is rich btw

Private school increased fees by 24% in the last 5 years. But the number of students went up by 6-7%. Hence adding vat won't create any fuss for the fee paying parents as they are aware of the increases during each term anyways regardless of taxes. Demand will not dissipate due to higher fees
@tomhaigh_7 ай бұрын
@@dhuidrom yes it will. We will have to take our own out of private schools as we won’t be able to afford the £5000 price increase. Along with many other people at the school. Don’t try to act like you know things when you don’t. This policy will make the state schools worse and where are these excess children supposed to go when the schools are already bursting at the seams.

Private schools like the House of Lords just reenforces our divided class system so getting rid of them would be a blessing It would probably also raise the educational standards in regular schools
@simonjess84717 ай бұрын
You fool! Putting VAT will widen the gap, not narrow it. !980 onwards provided a bridge for the hard working person to cross that social and economic divide. You want to tear that bridge down, just because you didn't get to cross it.

Ridiculous. No money , no choice. Tax them out of existance.

It is dis-ingenuous to compare the tax break on private education to the rich affording better schools. Unless you can suggest a tax break that large private houses get. Then we can take that away. Paying for a private education for your child is NOT a charitable donation.
@simonjess84717 ай бұрын
Pretty sure there is no VAT on homes/houses, whatever the size or cost.
