If you were a politician wouldn't you choose to surround yourself with people who you know will not understand the finer detail of what you are saying, particularly people who by accident of birth can choose to isolate themselves from the consequences of your actions. For the record I am English and married to a Filipino lady for 26 years. To this day she often miscomprehends such things as sarcasm (in which I am fluent and well practised).
