England is past the stage of using key games to showcase players. Gordon has no real experience at International level. Gordon has 1 really good season as 23 year old. You can't predict how players will deal at international level, many struggle and aren't able to showcase same level of performance. Some find it easier then others. England don't need too many unknowns from players. If Gordon has a poor game, is he done? See how crazy that sounds. Gordon is a player who has no senior level international experience or performances for England. Yet people now trying to then shoe horn that player into a starting 11 of a team who are expected to be one of the tournament favourites with stacked side. Respectfully 1 good season as a 23 year old on an underperforming team doesn't earn you a starting spot on a tournament favourite. Gordon hasn't proven himself for England (youth level don't count). Usually players will shine before tournaments during international friendlies, qualifiers. There are plenty of players who have great club seasons & warm the England bench or left home. What makes Gordon special where he can just walk into the starting 11 for a tournament for a team who are expected to win it all.

Well we actually have a decent backup in toney now. As much as I like Watkins, he's a mobile forward. Not a bullish striker. He could be played wide of toney, much like rashford would be of Kane, but toney is the backup in these games if Kane goes missing.

I'm excited to see England play as always I expect dissatisfaction and heartache. I just hope we don't get embarrassed by some of the banana skins in the group we've got. Our latest performances leave a lot to be desired. Southgate has made good decisions but will he change his tactics? Will he start Guehi ahead of Maguire? Just can’t stand Southgate, don’t know why, but I dislike him immensely, I think it comes down to his dithering in the main games and the fact that he can’t be criticised and questioned, he’s never had media pressure even when there was cause to do so, he’s a protected species . As a coach he may be ok , as a tactical manager…the big games where it counts, not up to it.
