The reason why they would compete is due to the finances the clubs would gain due to playing in the prem. Both clubs are massive and known worldwide. They both are very unique for both the right and wrong reasons however it attracts a lot of attention. Big players have said in the past how ibrox and parkhead have the best atmosphere on European nights so playing for them in the prem would be huge.

I’ll sum it up for all of the doubters. Celtic and Rangers have been to three uefa cup / Euopea league finals in 2000s. Average attendances: West Ham: 62,440 Arsenal: 60,191 Now that Anfield is bigger than Celtic Park the average attendances will be bigger. What Ally should’ve pointed out is that the atmosphere that would be generated in the Prem week-in-week-out by the Celtic and Rangers fanbases would be unrivalled and hugely effective. Both teams could add at least 30K seats to their already large stadiums and still fill them. The passion, colour, and noise, (combined with exponentially increased finances) would elevate Celtic and Rangers above other similar level teams. It would also lead to a higher calibre of player choosing the Old Firm over other teams who can offer similar wages.

Every year Celtic sell 55,000 season ticket and the waiting list is around 30,000, how many clubs in England have 55,000 season ticket holders ? Celtic have said that if they ever play in England or a European league comes they will increase the stadium capacity up to 83,000, at the moment no club in England has a stadium this big. There are around 680 Celtic supporters clubs around the world. There are more Celtic supporters clubs in London than Chelsea have, or Tottenham have. I live in Alicante, Spain and there are 5 “PROPER” Celtic supporters clubs within 25 minutes drive of each other. I can’t find one single English supporters club. Did you not know that Celtic hold the record attendances for every competition in Europe, so it doesn’t matter the population of Scotland. Scottish cup final 147,000. European cup 136,000. @@johntate5050 It’s not “if” it’s a fact that you can look up. Celtic don’t have access to the TV money that England and the other big leagues have access to limits the income. Celtic have to cut their cloth accordingly to the income for the SPFL which is around £2m per year compared to the teams relegated from the EPL that get over £100m. That’s where the disparity comes in. You put Celtic and Rangers into the EPL and watch top players go to them purely to play in the derby and if they could match the wages of the English teams players would flock there. 60,000 fans in Celtic park every week to watch them play St Mirren when Manchester City can’t fill their stadium for a historic 4th title in a row should tell you a lot.

Fan base from both clubs is far bigger globally than most teams in England bar Liverpool, man utd etc . That means with that support naturally already there it would be easy for a buyer for each club and on a level footing being player I think they would in a few years be up in top 6 . No point judging the teams that are playing in Scotland as that would all change when in England. With the fan base these clubs have it would put most tourist clubs in England to shame .

Celtic have to handle the pressure of winning every game in the Spl, losing two games in a row is a travesty, so competing against teams like villa and spurs who never win anything would be a walk in the park. With the extra money they would be able to attract better players and the likes of mcginn, robertson, van dyjk wouldnt be leaving to english teams.

Pressure to beat those teams is nothing compared to actually having to fight for wins week in week out. They'd get absolutely embarrassed in the EPL.

We arent talking about the rest of the SPL we are only talking about celtic. For a non-Brit like myself, the very notion of the segregation between Scottish football and English football is bizarre. One passport, one head of state, one head of government, one currency, one island (sorry, but for argumentative purposes, I'm discounting the .0001 of the population who live off the British mainland), but two leagues?!? The English FA isn't even entirely English, as it comprises Welsh clubs as well. For reasons which simply do not satisfy anyone of rational and impartial intellect, it is fine to include the Welsh, but exclude the Scots. It's nonsense. The historian in me chooses to believe the reason lies, at least subconsciously, in the relative degree of Welsh compliance with England, versus Scottish opposition to England. If it were to happen (it won't, I would wager), English fans would have to concede that Celtic and Rangers have too many resources, too much support, and too much to offer as proud historic clubs, to make them start at the very bottom - non league. On the other hand, Celtic and Rangers fans have to concede that they are in fact well behind the top flight English clubs, as well as much of the Championship. I think making them start in League One is a fair compromise. In a hypothetical alternate universe in which that were to happen, I can see one club or the other (more likely Celtic, given greater success in the last 20-25 years) eventually rising to Top Six status.
