Appreciate what he has achieved in his career and I am guessing you are an Indian, Ashwin is the only second Indian player who has taken more than 500 wickets in test cricket (over 750+ plus wickets in all formats) on top of this he has decent batting (6 test centuries) record for someone who has played mostly at 8 or 9 for whole his career. You don't need to be his fan to praise him for what he has achieved, just be a appreciative cricket fan.

I think Jarrod's provided the best and most insightful summation of Ashwin the cricketer that you will see among the many ritual tributes that have been paid by the cricketing world since he made that shock decision to retire. He is probably the best captain India never had , a cerebral and feisty man who was not given the job simply because his skills were always underrated and he did not have a guaranteed place in the side due to being faultily stereotyped as a spinner who could not play overseas. He should have been an automatic choice in the side but poorly conceived notions of 'balance' between bat and ball ensured that he was never given a fair run especially abroad. He might have ended up with far more wickets and runs than he actually did and played a few more years . I think he realised the game was up after Sundar outshone both him and Jadeja in the New Zealand series back home. The lack of adequate game time in Australia probably convinced him that it was time to go when people asked why and not when.

Sundar outshine ashwin not jadega.
@philm39673 күн бұрын
@@sumbdi Jadeja performed to expectations only in the third and final test against NZ in Mumbai. Although Jadeja eventually ended up with the same number of wickets in the series as Sundar, that was largely due to the one off display in Mumbai. Both he and Ashwin were disappointing in the other two tests, a key reason for India's first series loss at home in many years.

@@philm3967 nope we lost the series against NZ bcz of our batting not bowling,just check the kind of shots our top order played it was careless, overconfidence and senseless. 1) VK getting out to rubbish delivery of santner in 2nd test 1st innings, infact in that innings most of the batsman played poor shots 2)In 3rd test just 10min before the end of play Jaiswal reckless reverse sweep, kohli stupid runout. 3) rohit playing reckless shots against fast bowlers So for such stupidity how can bowlers be blamed?? Sundar outbowled jadega in 2nd test 1st innings, but from 2nd innings onwards it was even Steven both with the bat and ball. It's been 1.5 months we lost the test series but it's surprising that still people are blaming our bowlers but main culprit are our batsman.

As an aussie cricket fan, I hate Ashwin. I hate him so much. The pain he has put me through, and the frustrations i have felt. As a former grade cricket finger spinner, i hate Ashwin even more. The ridiculous talent and the impossible variations. Ashwin is in my eyes the 3rd best spinner ever. Ive seen him bowl well in Australia and then get shafted....he was starting to work out overseas test bowling and then India went in a different direction. Such a pity. He is a legend. I hope he becomes a bowling coach (hopefully for Australia) , and a commentator and a social media guru. The cricket world needs his cricket brain.

Ashwin was never given a fair run overseas. He would have been able to deliver the same results as he did in India had he been given a consistent run. He is smart and would have worked out a plan to get wickets abroad. No one can be effective when they are not sure of their place in the side. Interestingly Australian wickets would have suited him well given the bounce. It's a case of what if. Shane Warne and Muralitharan were automatic choices everywhere as also Anil Kumble. Even Kumble struggled overseas and came good abroad, towards the latter part of his career.

I don't think anyone can be greater than Jas Bumrah. Not because of his current form alone, but he is a genuinely good guy. I think he is a great mentor as well. Never flustered by anything. Does his job, no run-ins with the board or favoring one player over another. He takes what he gets. He'll do more than his best at all times and accept any situation (win or lose) with a smile at the end of the day. Lot to learn from him as a person.

When someone has announced their retirement in the middle of the series, obviously they personally wouldn't want the board to foot their bills for the rest of it. What is he going to do in the dressing room, hotel anyway feeling the board is footing the bill for his "advice to his former colleagues." That's like being paid to be on vacation and Ashwin is a proud guy and has done the right thing by deciding to leave tomorrow. I'm sure the retirement itself has got to do with family and being close to his mother. Besides, he's 38 and not a fitness freak - how long did people expect him to continue?
