One thing I don't understand is, you don't drop a batsman sighting team combinations, if his average in SENA countries is half of his home average.why is it always the bowlers that are subjected to team combinations. You got 6 batsmen a keeper yet you want an all rounder, then the issue is with the batting not bowling combinations. Just a thought.

Going up in the nineties having Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Sewage, Kumble and Zaheer as heros and that' too Being from South Africa, non of their retirement announcements have hit as much as R Ashwin's did. I followed his illustrious career and Being a huge fan of Indian cricket. R Ashwin' is an ultimate impact player that helped India (Bharat) win for years. Will miss Him on the Fields. My childhood dream was to play cricket at the big stages but when you have players like R Ashwin' all it does intensify your desire to be apart of cricket. Sign of to Ravi Bhai. Great tribute Harsha - you are like the Richie Benaud voice of INDIAN cricket. Following this game for 43 years, even I second what you said on Ash. My tribute for ASHWIN : The name says it all, Ash-WIN. He was born to win games for Team India. He is the only TN player to play more than 100 Tests and like the other numerous records he has, we can sing a lot of praises in him. My initial reaction listening to the news of his retirement - I think it is more of the treatment that Ash has been getting especially playing overseas - is what made him take this decision. He is seen more of a net bowler overseas and blame it on the three idiots (Selectors, Indian Team Mgmt and Indian Captain) for the freakin respect he is getting inspite of performing consistently. Rohit or Kohli, inspite of their freakin performances would always feature in the 11, because one is current captain and another one is former captain. Has Australia dropped someone like Lyon ? He is getting the right respect in always getting selected in the 11, inspite of any conditions. That is the sort of confidence, Ash has been badly missing from the 3 idiots for a long time now. Anyways, Ash has made the decision and we all know he is a sensible person and team player. I personally would have treasured Ash for another 2 more years, if not like Jimmy Anderson playing for eternity and still performed. From India perspective Ash deserved to overtake JUMBO or at least finish with 600 wickets. We all know that records have followed Ash and he necessarily haven't chased them. Also for a thinking player like him, I would have loved to see ASH captain TEAM INDIA at least once. A cricketing legend - to come from TN and play more than 100 Tests in itself is a herculean achievement. And that too for someone with the kind of bowling average that Ash has got after playing 100+ Tests, he is going to leave a big void and hope Washy (another TN player) is able to achieve at least half of what Ash did. Even he needs to be given proper chances for that. I really don't want to talk or comment on the petty politics of team selection when it comes to picking TN players in your eleven. Living in Sydney, I was hoping to see Ash play for one last time here at SCG where he and Vihari showed the survival of fittest story in hanging on for a draw with their stern fight at the crease. I should not be saying this, but slowly I am losing interest in the way TEST cricket is played these days, especially TEAM INDIA senior players. Like a bunch of fools, we keep watching some of these hyped superstars make the same mistake again and again. If Rohit and Kohli can play in the 11 all times, I thought someone like Pujara if not Rahane deserved one final chance to play in the Land Down Under. I hope senior players (esp. ROKO) also soon realize that they have been mere liabilities playing in the 11 and bow out of this TEST format with the same grace like what Ash did. TEAM INDIA after losing the home series against Kiwis and the way they went gaga avoiding a follow-on is throwing ALARM BELLS and we definitely need both RETROSPECTION and INTROSPECTION. Coming back to Ash, he seems to have introspected his position smartly and appreciate his spirit in bowing out with grace when he was still performing. As Ash said, he will be even more busy with PERIYA stories and will keep us all engaged. Hence it is TEAM INDIA who is going to miss ASH and ASH is like a family member to the rest. Well done Ash in your cricketing career, we from TN in particular are very proud of what you have achieved. SKY was the limit for you but you drew your end line and did well in the 20000 feet sky-dive jump. Come back home and TN blokes, get the THARAI THAPATTAI ready and it is WHISTLE PODU time for our Chennaite REAL HERO !!!

Frankly Indian team didn’t give respect to Ashwin , getting dropped in most of overseas tour in name of team balance . Why such team balance don’t happen for batman ? Why non performing stars batman never get treated like that . Compared to Ashwin , Austrlia never dropped Lyon , Lyon batting is not even 10% of Ashwin batting . Sad reality of Indian cricket , where bowlers are not treated fairly.

In Test matches It's always about bowling in pairs n bowling attacks must take wickets with the new ball specially in SENA countries. Very unfortunate Ashwin never had a partner who would build eqal pressure from the other end in SENA. Even great Warne always had bowlers like Macgrath, Gillespie etc to support him. Respect to Ashwin for a fantastic career. ❤

Ashwin is as big as vk or rohit, but in our country we overhype batsman compared to bowlers..if batsman don't get enough runs, drop a bowler 😢 I guess he should have retired earlier itself when he was dropped even when he was ranked no 1 test bowler.... even in odi worldcup he played well against Aussie but in finals was not even in consideration, our selectors disrespected a legend... atleast in Chennai he'll get proper farewell in ipl and I pray Ashwin to captain ranji side and win for us

Ashwin simply got sick of the way he was treated by the selection committee. He was unnecessarily dropped from limited overs formats when he was still winning matches and even in tests if he fails one test people will want him dropped. The same won’t happen for the likes of Kohli or some of the others who endorse many brands

India should play with 10 all rounders and a Bumrah coz no amount of batting depth can help the pathetic batting shown in recent years by our batters especially KL ( Carre avg 35) Virat ( Last 5 years avg - 30 ) and Rohit ( SENA avg - 31) and to an extent - Gill ( no impact in SENA countries after that 91 at Gabba) You can easily tell there's a prob with the BATTING when in last 5 years bowling allrounders has a higher batting avg than KL and Kohli.

I fully support Gambhir. Ashwin cannot bully team that he has to be selected at any cost. Ashwin is now bowling average like Siraj , batting a nouch better than Siraj & fielding exactly like Siraj. Why Siraj is select is because Indian team feels donkey should play in horse race because donkey work very hard irrespective of their skill. All commentators from Harsha Bogle to Sunny Gavaskar feel Siraj should play bcoze he works very hard & shows aggression though misplaced. So don’t blame Ashwin for his frustration. When donkeys can be picked consistently why not him.

Ashwin should have had played at least some 25 Tests more. But, he was sidelined from the playing XI more often during the tenure of Kohli as a captain and Ravi Shastri as a coach. He was at the peak of his career during that phase of his career. If only he had played another 25 Tests more, he would have had taken another 75 wickets or even more and he would have had retired from the game with 600 wickets in his kitty. Ashwin anouncing his retirement suddenly during the middle of a series suggests that he might have had felt slighted or being subjected to humiliation by not playing him in the XI despite him being the best spinner in the team. However, let us all wish him a happy and a healthy retired life.

I think management might have told him that the team for Sydney is : KL Jaiswal Gill Kohli Pant Rohit Jadeja Nitish Reddy Washington Bumrah Siraj/Akashdeep Thus means that we bat till number 9. Ball will turn in Sydney so Jaddu and Sundar will do well. Nitish has batted really well so cannot be dropped.
