We don't 'pay' for the Prince of Wales either, his establishment is funded by the Duchy of Cornwall. ps: The monarch does not receive the full annual revenue from the Crown Estate, the balance goes into The Treasury - for the Gov to use - add to that the money that comes into this country from tourism - ie visitors who are drawn to the UK purely by royal events. As an American, these were my initial takeaways for what they’re worth: -We sang this song in school, but with different lyrics. It was certainly appropriated, as the verse I learned sang of pilgrims, liberty, and freedom. I will have to look up it’s history now. -There are idiots everywhere, not just America. -Pride in one’s country is not only limited to my country. I don’t know why it surprises me to see how similar other countries are to my own. I wonder how many British are reminded of their loved ones who served/died fighting for their country when they sing their national anthem? -Finally, as customarily polite and reticent as the British appear, I appreciated the passion with which they quelled the few obnoxious dullards who felt compelled to revert back to infantilism.
@Moose6340 Жыл бұрын
It's the same tune as "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" which I also used to sing every morning in elementary school in the '70s. It's apparently also used for the national anthem of Lichtenstein and was the German anthem before 1918. Nobody seems to know where the actual music came from originally.

Before I started watching Colchester utd for nigh on 50 years following them all over the country . I have fond memories of getting involved in a right bit of aggro involving some Hartlepool supporters back in the late 80's at some service station on the A1 and getting my teeth kicked down my throat......Great day's and memories. Most of the Spurs and Leicester fans were impeccable. Just a pity you had a few morons who couldn't keep their mouths shut for 60 seconds. Also, I never understand the need for high pitched female voices on microphones leading the singing of the National Anthem. It just overpowers everything. Let's just have the people in the ground singing without any lead, male or female. It is much more effective. But thank you to the 99.99 percent of the Spurs and Leicester fans.
