I can recall seeing this beautiful ship back when it circumnavigated Australia and came into Mooloolaba and Redcliffe, thank you for keeping it going!

Beautiful ship. I had the pleasure of stepping on board her when she was moored at the Swan Brewery in Perth a few years back. The workmanship was mind blowing and really did feel like a boat built in the 1600's transported in time to the present.

Tall ships are just beautiful to see, but all that heavy rigging up high makes them subject to rolling pretty often, even in what seems like a mostly calm sea. It's amazing to see how much has changed with regard to modern sailing, but I don't think anything will ever beat the romance of a vessel like this. And seven knots isn't bad for her size. I thought sure she'd be sitting at 5 knots the whole way. I wonder if SV Notorious (replica Portuguese caravelle built in Australia) will be at the wooden boat festival. I think Duyfken is bigger, but it would be interesting to see them together. Thanks for sharing this!

I remember watching her being built in the grounds of the maritime museum in Freo. THen, when she was launched, I became a shipkeeper, all those chilly nights trying to get some sleep and getting up to soak her decks with salt water.Still, the free fish and chips was from Kailis was a welcome break. When she began sailing I worked as crew and did a few trips as engineer, mostly with Captain Dai! happy days and fond memories!

Stepped on board when she visited Redcliffe, QLD some time ago now. Great to experience a 1600 smallish ship that visited our shore over 400 years ago. Wish I was there with you.

That was the Leeuwin based in Fremantlw WA and yes it was devastating news. That's half the youth sailing training options in Australia gone in an instant. It's not clear if it's worth spending $Aus10 million to re -rig her when the hull would have sustained some stress damage when coming down and as a steel ship the hull plates probably only have 10-15 years life left in them. A very sad day. Thanks for watching Sailing Duyfken and I hope you enjoy the other videos, cheers Paul
