You weren't going too slow, brother, you made it up there faster than I woulda (see, I'm not just older too, I'm dumb and still smoke 🤦♂️). Here's a tip that I learned though, when I'm watching one of my videos where I'm hiking and I feel like I was going too slow, just change the playback speed to 1.25X and I'm walking faster. NEVER change it to 2X and watch though, I'm too old to be double timing it up any hills 😜😂Jokes aside, great video! Awesome scenery, waterfalls, campfires, and content dogs swimming, it doesn't get any better, my friend. Wishing y'all an awesome Easter weekend 😊✌

Those views, though! They were great, but then that little waterfall was gorgeous. My wife’s grandmather was full of "old mountain wives’ tales” and she had two concerning the whippoorwill. 1) When you heard your first whippoorwill, it was time to put the shoes up for the summer, and 2) It would frost 6 months from the day that you hear the first whippoorwill. If that is true, we are in a for early frost this year. Or maybe that particular bird was just really eager to get the mating season started. LOL!
@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING4 жыл бұрын
🤣✌️ Funny, we were hearing two whip-poor-wills, so, they may have just been trying to hook up. JBENHIKES - Cash, you were the star of the show. I saved all the stories. I was editing episode two and three and the stories are great. Appreciate the music comment. But, I’m just a “three chord” kind of guy. It was fun though to figure out how to use that. Appreciate ya buddy. Let’s go again. Crow✌️

AS THE CROW FLIES HIKING when I first got bifocals my dogs were afraid of me for a while and I think I kicked every piece of furniture in the house. It’s like walking while you’re looking through a GoPro. 😂

That is a perfect reference. I actually need bifocals. My close up vision is starting to go...😬

How far is the hike from where you parked to where you camped the first night? I think you said that campsite was about 500 yards from the waterfall. I've been wanting to camp in that forest, but I'm not familiar with the water sources. I'm more of a camper than a mile hiker. I would hike to a spot and camp there for two or three days if it's near water. I enjoy watching your videos.

John Millwood Outdoors - Appreciate it John. There is a trail head at High Falls, South of Cheaha. I have never entered the Forest from that trailhead. This was my first time being on the Odum Scout Trail. But, (I wish I knew the correct mileage, I don’t think the falls are too far from that trailhead (High Falls). We started at Turnipseed Campgrounds and hiked up to the Pinhoti Trail, that runs across the ridge. From there, we crossed the Pinhoti and counnted to the Odum Scout Trail, and hiked to the falls. 9-10 miles. But, there is a much shorter way. By simply starting at the High Falls Trailhead. I can’t imagine it is more than a few miles to the falls. Then, you simply walk to the top of the falls and as soon as you get on the Odum Scout Trail, the campsite is immediate to your right. We could hear the falls from that campsite. I hope that helps. The ranger Station has a map they can email you of the area, which shows the trailhead. If I can find it, I’ll try to send to you. Crow✌️

@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING - I found the map on AllTrails. I believe this is the route you took but in reverse. www.alltrails.com/trail/us/alabama/high-falls-to-turnipseed-campground-via-odum-trail I found addresses to all the trailheads for parking. Yes, the High Falls Trailhead has parking not far from the falls as you mentioned. Thank you for the info.

Appreciate it PJ. For this trip, I just know the first two trails. For the third and fourth day, JBenhikes used AllTrails to get to the old CCC bridge. That trail is in the third episode. But, pretty much anything on Cheaha is like second nature to me. That is my favorite place in the world. 🤣✌️

Awesome video like always. I always look forward to your videos. I need to make it down there to backpack sometime. What temps do you get down to in February?
@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING4 жыл бұрын
HENNING OUTDOORS - Thanks buddy! Some of my coffee video was cut from part two, which will be out tonight. That is a good question about temperatures in February in Alabama. People joke they Alabama has all four seasons in a week, plus the 5th season...tornados, which we may have here tomorrow. Seriously though, it can get down in the 20s in February. But, it may be in the 60s in February...it all depends. Usually having a 20 degree sleeping bag gets me by all year round down here. Appreciate you watching. Crow✌️
