Some can't. Some have no money for gas or motels. Or they are, or have responsibility for, sick or frail folks who cant really travel. Or they themselves are first responders, hospital staff, national guard, or others who stay for the sake of others.

Literally. I was young when Katrina hit. I am from the MS gulf coast. It was bad. We left the coast and my grandmas house still had bad damage about an hour from the beach. It wasn’t near as bad as New Orleans but it messed up a lot of memories from my childhood. I’m on the outskirts, west of this hurricane. I’m already ready to leave if need be.

I think Ike was a cat 4 or 5. I was living in Houston when it hit Texas. Galveston was warned to evacuate, almost half didn’t listen and they got destroyed. Done know why people don’t listen.

Why would anyone, including media, stay in an area designated to be facing an unsurvivalble storm surge. If they live but need to be rescued they are also puting those tasked with rescue at risk to, for no other reason than to boast about refusing to follow evacuation orders.

@@churrobomb1554My sister lives in Tally in a rental duplex and has a large pine leaning toward the house. It’s on property that has an owner but the city can’t contact them. Its been 12 years! They’re wary every tropical storm, but this time they’ve battened down their belongings in their house as much as possible and moved themselves and their animals into a hotel. Last update I had was that the power was flickering but all is well.
