My favorite of her lines: "Daddy warned me about men and alcohol, but he didn't say a word about women and cocaine."

She actually never said that.

Apparently, Tallulahs last words whilst dying in hospital were 'Bourbon, Codeine' in that order! I can relate to that! They just don't make legends like her today! And it's always great to see Hugh Herbert! It's such a shame she didn't make more films, but she preferred the stage and the bright lights of Broadway. Bette Davis ''channelled” Tallulah in 'All About Eve', even down to the dress she wore.

Ok, That looked dangerous. That took some balance not to have that silk cloth to slip out from under her while she was standing on the piano acting unstable.

She was truly mad. Her laugh was diabolical--I love how she effortlessly careens from mad revelry to deep despair at the very end. She had a brilliant stage career (it was probably too much for buttoned down Hollywood to know what to do with all that manic brilliance) but trashed it all through booze and pills and promiscuity and self-caricature. She was a woman whose talent was fueled by demons of self-destruction. Fiercely intelligent, she could brandish that subversive wit to poke fun of the staid conformity of the day and giggle in her champagne at her own naughtiness. How I wish her Regina Giddens in The Little Foxes had been committed to film for posterity. Bette Davis was good but Tallulah would have been epic. There's no one remotely like her today.

Very well said!!!!! She was one of a kind! I too think her "little foxes" on film, it would be EPIC!!!!
@deactivateduser98163 жыл бұрын
Exactly, Wyler had too much control on the character portrayal of Regina in the film version. Bette Davis did an spectacular job, but the character still felt somehow flat (even herself agreed so). If only Tallulah’s version was recorded…

Even though I recognize her name, I’ve never seen a movie she’s been in. In this clip I see a little of Bette Davis in her, or rather Tallulah Bankhead in Bette Davis.

I too would love to see the entire film. Wasnt Tallulah great in this scene? Very vivacious bubbling lovely acting, untill now ive only seen her in Hitchcocks movie Life boat and she was a treat to wartch in there.
