The sad thing about Christina of Sweden is that she clearly had a lot of unrealized misogyny as she saw females and femininity as "less than" men and masculinity. Unfortunately there was not a lot of discussion at the time about this topic, and the inherit, unequal differences between the sexes was a given, not really an argument. I feel bad that she saw women as weak and vapid, and that to be a man meant that she was "better". She was a very cool woman, but unfortunately that misogyny was inevitably going to be a part of her life because there was no conversation around it....at least not mainstream enough that she would have ever questioned her convictions. Maybe she would not have been such a "tomboy" if she (and society) had respected women and feminine traits as much as men and masculine traits. Thank you for posting about her, she really has an interesting history.

I was thinking about that and perhaps most of her disdain towards women came from how they were treated and had to live back then. She was literally educated as a prince and maybe seeing the other women not sharing the same knowledge as she created that vision. I wonder what she'd think of modern women, who share education similar to men, she wore male clothes because it was more practical, maybe if she saw how easy a girl today can put a flowery dress she wouldn't be so masculine. But that's just me wondering, time-travel still out of the table.

I was raised with boys, I was the only granddaughter for 26 years(my uncle and his wife finally just had a little girl this year!) , I don’t know how to be around or deal with women so I just stay away from them. Christina is one of my favorite historical figures of all-time, and definitely my favorite royal to ever walk the earth. I was always fascinated with her as a child, and that definitely made sense later on when I realized I was a lesbian too. She's real tangible proof that we've always been around, even in the highest reaches of society. It's crazy to me that, even with hundreds of years between us, lesbians still have very similar internal experiences and struggles today regarding gender expression and the societal expectation for women to marry men and center our lives around them.

Did you know that Christina turning to Catholic was maybe the biggest scandal in history. (According to some historians.) Why? Well her father was the Gustavus Adolphus, "the Lion of the North", the number one champion and hero of the Protestant world. He was a devout Lutheran. So Christina's turning to Catholic was a MASSIVE propaganda victory to the Catholic Church. To give you an idea how big the scandal was back then, imagine if George W. Bush's daughter had went to Afganistan, turned to Muslim, and married Osama in Laden. Even that example wouldn't have as big scandal as Christina's.

This did go more in depth than we did in school. It didn't necessarily add anything personally but it was nice to know more

Even she was dealt a better life than most women (including royal women) at the time just by being more "manly." Yet still being a woman, her one killing of a person on an act of betrayal was "barbaric." She even had no issues side stepping the throne to other family members in order not to perform womanly duties. Kings all over the world killed for lesser reasons (even their spouses) and literally get away with murdering hundreds and thousands of people. Yet her one act was "barbaric." 🤔

Nice portrait of our former queen Kristina. However, there is some things that needs clarification in your story. The body of her father Gustaf II Adolf was not held by queen Maria Eleonora for 18 months. He died at the battle of Lutzen the 6 of November 1632 and it took until August 1633 to bring him home to Stockholm. He was balsamated soon after he died and hes heart was kept in a cloth in a small box that the queen kept close to her for a long time. She postponed the burial for 10 months but she didn't kept his body for herself during that time. He finally was buried in june 1634. The cloth called "the heart cloth" can bee seen today at the "livrustkammaren" in the royal castle of Sweden. Also, the linen shirt the king was wearing at the time of his death can also be seen there, along with his war horse Streiff.

She was neither the first nor the last Christian Women who were too BASED to exist But at the same time, she would be horrified to know the current state of Sweden. Even the current status of Catholic Church would give her a shock.

Sweden’s fine. As for the Church, I am not entirely sure that she was genuinely interested in Catholicism or, like the Pope said, she was a ‘Christian without faith’ and accepted Catholicism primarily because she thought it less strict than Protestantism. Protestant countries like England didn’t accept women in theatre until Charles II came around.

I love that you mentioned PCOS and didn’t make it seem like she was genuinely a man. Women with PCOS can be masculine and still be women
@elsakristina26892 ай бұрын
From the research I’ve done I think she probably had a combination of PCOS and CAH. Plus she definitely had type 2 diabetes and was also missing a lot of permanent teeth since very young adulthood, and both PCOS and premature loss of permanent teeth are linked with type 2 diabetes.

The funny thing is, since she was so smart, she was "not like other girls". If they only knew how smart most women could've been if they let them...

I honestly like her. She was a lesbian in a time that it was ashamed. And yet none shows how we treated lgbt people before, what? 1980’s?

I think it wasn't people accepting her as an 'intersex' but they were raised her as a prince, crowned her as a king, and thought she was a boy at birth. It was the environment who 'pushed' her to be a male heir they never had
@est99494 жыл бұрын
Intersex conditions are more diverse than one thought. I was born with MRKH and you won't be able to tell from my grave 100 years after my death about my condition.

She was actually called “Kung byxlös” in Sweden, meaning “King pantless” since she was a woman in a kings place.
