You're one of the devs for inav, can you explain about Auto-Tune in which mode is it better to perform an auto tune? Acro, angle or horizon? If you're in an angle and Horizon does it defeat the purpose of getting a full tune on the PID controller because they work in two completely different ways? It's a very confusing subject and it would so many conflicting answers going around I would like to hear it from a DEV thanks :) and thanks for all you do I love inav it's amazing and very powerful. Keep up the great work.

@@FarmerFpv You should use acro because what is being tuned by autotune is the rate controller only. Using any other mode would interfere with the measurements.

@@MichelPASTOR Thanks for confirming that for me. And I appreciate the quick response. Yeah I figured they were two different pid loops we are dealing with. Autotune tunes the rate PIDs I was confident that's how it worked. Angle mode you have to tune separately manually. Cheers Rob

Hi, I recently just totally destroyed my AR wing in a crash, do you think this would be a better buy than the AR wing?
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 5 жыл бұрын
They are definitely different planes. I think the Talon GT is less forgiving than the AR Wing, and the AR is more likely to survive a crash. I'd call the GT a more advanced model. The AR will probably give you more "bang for your buck". That said, I've got a new wing in the mail so I can replace the left wing that I broke on this one, and will be flying it some more in the future. I've got a couple of other projects too, so not sure when I'll work on them all, but I've got some stuff to keep me busy for the winter... lol

Hi, I just ordered this plane, I'm not going to take the chance with the motor as I hear lots have iss6with the magnets letting go. I'm going with sunnysky 2216 1400kv and a genfam 9 x 5 folding prop. It's only a bit more of than stock. Would that be okay for prop setup? For fpv I'm going TBS crossfire. Do you know if it has enough space in the nose for a sjcam sj8 pro. I'm going with kopilot for fc. How do it land on stall, do a reverse or brake need to be installed in short landing areas?

Can you tell me what you AUW is/was? And, do you think aerobaut 9x7 folding props with a cobra 2221/16 940kv would work on this build? I ordered a mini talon and have all my electronics and fpv gear bought for it, unfortunately, with the covid 19 thing going on, I can't seem to get one shipped...I've actually bought 4 mini talons and all have been refunded, so I have all this gear just sitting and waiting...but I could gave a talon gt or dart right now to make something work...by the way, I'm no fan of sunysky

You may have seen it already, but "Michel PASTOR" (an inav dev) explains the issue and offers a fix in reply to another comment below. "It is an issue with the OSD chip hardware blinking handling on some flight controllers. We haven't been able to track down the exact source of the issue but it doesn't seem to be software. Personally I never had this problem. Turning on display_force_sw_blink makes the blinking handled in software instead of hardware thus solving the issue." I've yet to try it, but I expect it will solve the issue. I will most likely end up swapping cameras again anyway. lol The issue wasn't there when I was using a different camera before this one. In CLI, "set display_force_sw_blink = ON"

Also, when you got that bounce, you had slowed to about 25mph when doing pitch tuning, when you have been doing it at 35-40 before, try and keep your speed during tuning at as close to the same cruise speed as possible, the plane likely jacked up pitch gains due to the slow speed, and then oscillated. This is why they recommend turning auto tune off before landing, as the slow speed will reset undesirable gains
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 5 жыл бұрын
That's GPS ground speed, and there was a fair bit of wind during the flight. Air speed should have been pretty consistent at the same throttle. I've read that it's the shock of landing that can confuse things, not so much the speed. There's so much info spread around though, a lot if which is conflicting. lol I'd LOVE to see a definitive guide put together, but it's always changing and evolving, that guide would be obsolete in a week. ;)

Any idea of how to mount the little standoffs on the wood plate for mounting a square flight controller? They just fall down if pushed through the holes, I am planning to mount a micro vector without its case
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I never used those. Looking at them, I thought they would just drop through the holes too... lol My best bet would be either glue the standoffs into the plate, or use the case and stick it down with mounting tape. That's how I mounted the fill size Vector in my Dart XL, and the F-405 Wing in the Talon GT. I'd probably try mounting the standoffs to the board, then put a blob of hot glue on each hole and press it into place, making sure the keep the board level and off the plate/glue so you could remove it later.

Why does your flight timer disappear at the end of the flight? Great flight though!
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 5 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing the same issue with the altitude and distance disappearing once they reach the alarm values. I have an alarm set for the timer too, but don't remember what the value is. I just set all those up with some pretty conservative numbers at the start and haven't taken the time to adjust them yet. Michel Pastor commented and suggested there's a fix for it, so apparently a known issue... lol It only showed up after switching to camera for the HS1177. "Hello. Inav dev here. To solve the OSD elements going away instead of blinking: set display_force_sw_blink = ON"

Inav or Vector ? whats you favorite and why?
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 4 жыл бұрын
Easy answer, it depends... lol They're both great, but different. Vector is refined, reliable, easy to set up, has support available from the manufacturer when you need it, but costs more. iNav is cheap to set up, versatile given that it runs on various hardware, but setup is more demanding and time consuming, it's easier to make a mistake, and support/help usually comes from others in the community. Being open source, there's virtually no limit on what inav can do depending on how deep you're willing to dive in... lol

Which do you favor more, the Talon GT Rebel, or the Dart XL? & What’s the biggest reason?
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 5 жыл бұрын
Right now, the Dart XL. I find it's a little more forgiving than the Talon GT in it's flight characteristics. Keep in mind though, that so far I've ran into a number if issues with the Talon GT that are not necessarily due to the design, but things like the loose magnets in the motor that I think at least contributed to the tough launches early on. (lack of power when it's needed most... lol) I'm running iNav in the Talon GT and it's still somewhat new to me, relative to the Vector than I'm using in the Dart XL. A lot of the time I've spent so far with the Talon GT has been fumbling around with inav getting it set up better. I know the plane has more to offer, it's just taking me longer than expected to get there... lol Couple that with unfortunate timing that set me back a couple weeks from the hobby and I'm sure all that influences my opinion of the plane so far. I'm sure it will change once I've got more time on it. They are both nice planes though, for sure. Personally, I do prefer the looks of the Dart XL, but that's all it is there, cosmetics... lol
@fpvquadjockey9195
@fpvquadjockey9195 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I can appreciate all of that. If I buy either one, I will probably plan on replacing the motor out of the box with the SunnySky that you used. I am partial to the looks of the Dart as well, but if there was a major reason you liked the Talon better I’d take that into consideration. My main concern is the nose of the Dart breaking off, it is becoming very well known for this online. Just not sure how little force it takes to break.

In Auto-Tune I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be in rate mode as Angle mode uses a different PID loop, it's what I understood from the wiki. Just like on betaflight the regular PID loop does nothing for Angle mode. When I tuned mine in rate mode it actually did a really great job. I might have read it wrong but I swear it's what it said? I guess It might work on all modes but won't hurt to double-check. But I could have sworn it said to use rate mode for Autotune so you can push it to its limits, Let me know what it says if you re-read it. Either way already looks really smooth to me. What was the wind speed? Round two successful ding ding lol
@bonafidepirate
@bonafidepirate 5 жыл бұрын
I've read conflicting info on that all over the web... lol In one of Pawel's videos, in the comments he says in a few places you can use stabilized modes, but he mostly flys acro so he autotunes in acro. (comments for this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4Cql3ZppduVja8) The Wiki here states that autotune runs on top of angle/horizon/acro modes which suggests it should work in at least those. (github.com/iNavFlight/inav/blob/development/docs/Autotune%20-%20fixedwing.md) I know it definitely changes PIDs (PIFFs? lol) when running in stabilized modes. I couldn't say what's best though, as I said this is only the second build I've done with inav and there's a LOT more that I don't know, than what I do know about it... lol I'm learning though! If I figure it out I may revisit this later, but for now it's flying pretty dang good... lol

Change the stabilized yaw in the mixer to rc yaw, so that it doesn’t crab. I think inav’s rudder implementation for stabilization is a bit primitive. Switching it to rc only makes it fly much better

OK, just read... lol so RC is just basic passthrough yaw control, with no stabilization on yaw axis. Got it! I guess it might take out the little bit of wag I saw here and there. You'd still need to crab into the wind to maintain a heading with a crosswind though, physics and all... lol

bonafidepirate a friend of mine had an issue where his plane would fly almost sideways in a 1-2mph crosswind. We tried to tune it out over 3-4 flights and then just switched the mixer to rc yaw, and it flew perfectly. He did have to change the -100,100 in the mixer because rc yaw was backwards from what stab yaw was.
