As someone who grew up in the film days and shot a lot of 35mm, 120 and a bit of large format, it's a bit strange that young people want to bother shooting film. To me it's just a huge hassle and creatively stifling - most of my best shots come after a lot of failures trying different ideas, and I could never afford to shoot that much film! Give me a FF mirrorless body and I'm happy - I love old glass, that's one piece of the past I am glad to still have around. I have a 1974 Nikkor 105mm that I bought in 1987 that remains my favourite lens of all time. It's fun to play around with different things though, and you got some lovely shots!

For the same reason vinyl is making a comeback. It turns out that some of the aspects considered to be inconveniences which were improved on by digital are fun to do. Having an artifact in your hand can make a meaningful connection.

Beautiful photos!!! I have the 645 1000s and enjoy using it, but only because I can’t afford a Hassy. It’s a great option for what it is.

These are some truly beautiful pics. I definitely think that since you've got the Hassy, this 645 is probably not offering anything special enough. You do have me wanting to get that 1.9 lens tho! I definitely don't pick up my 645 as much these days, and keep considering getting rid of it, but it also is one I have a hard time parting with. Maybe you should try a TLR (have you already covered one in your journey to getting a medium format street camera?). It would potentially offer you what others haven't, in that they're light weight and small (but still give you that 6x6 format). I recently got a Rolleicord IV and a Yashica D and I definitely would recommend either (and I already had a 2.8 Rolleiflex, and I think I prefer either of these two cameras to that unless I really need that glass, the user experience on the Rolleicord and Yashica feel much less clunky and more natural to me!). A big advantage of the Rolleicord/Yashica is they use Bay 1 filters, so you can actually feasibly get close-up filters for it for not a million dollars (which is nice if you want to take more close-up portraits), whereas you will be payin out the nose for anything that fits the 2.8 Rolleiflexes

Thanks for the tip on the Bay 1 filters. I do enjoy using Yashicas and I’ve been spending more time on the streets w them lately. Hoping to get more experience with them in the coming months. And you should for sure check out the 80mm f1.9. It’s an amazing lens.

I think the m645 system is the second best only to Hasselblad. Lens offering, variance in body styles and the fact that the legacy lenses work on all newer systems is great. Not to mention the 145 SF lens. It's amazing

I haven’t tried the 145 lens, but now you’ve got me curious. And you make great points about the 645 system and its versatility. I find myself thinking about it a lot bc of all you mention. Who knows, 5 years from now I might own one. 😆

The 1.9 is a pretty amazing lens. How did you find the accuracy of the light meter on the prism finder?
@TalyaAdams2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t use it because I was shooting portraits. Past experiences has gotten me off using camera internal light meters for portraits.

@@TalyaAdams were you just judging by eye? or did you carry a meter? Love the video by the way, very candid, clear and great pics

The latest iteration of the 645 system, with motor, prism finder and so on was on my wish list several years ago. Now I find it too "plasticky" and I've choose the RB 67 system. Bulkier, heavier but completely mechanical. I'm waiting for a second body.. mamiya glasses anyway rule.
@TalyaAdams2 жыл бұрын
Over time I’ve grown an appreciation for the RB67 as well and I agree Mamiya glass is spectacular.

I really loved using a Mamiya C330 for shooting on the street. Despite its unique looks it was invisible and nobody ever noticed it and the shutter was nearly silent. Maybe a TLR will be your perfect street camera setup.
@TalyaAdams2 жыл бұрын
I think you may be right. I’ve been experimenting over the summer w TLRs and I have drawn a final conclusion as of yet. However, I do enjoy the 6x6 format and the quiet shutter as well. Do you still have the C330?
@jillianbarker92362 жыл бұрын
@@TalyaAdams No I no longer own it. I sold it only recently though and it had a lot of rolls of film through it over the years, some of my favourite shots were taken with it. My first tlr was an Minolta Autocord which was extremely light and took gorgeous images but I thought it was limited because of the fixed focal length. Then I sold it and bought the Mamiya C330 and it was brilliant. Definitely heavier than the Autocord, but the range of lenses and accessories made it a better fit for me. It wasn’t heavier than a blad though. I only sold the C330 because I wanted the money to buy a large format camera. Will you make a video about your tlr experiments?
@TalyaAdams2 жыл бұрын
@@jillianbarker9236 Yep. I'll have plenty of videos covering my tlr experiences in the near future. 😃

I think the c330 destroys it tbh. I get people who get the 645 as it's a smoother transition from 35 to 120, but it's overhyped imo
