At one time, I owned a set of these exact drums. (I’ve also owned multiple sets of Craviotto.) The Tama Star bubinga are some of the best sounding drums on the planet. This video doesn’t do them justice. Great video - but these drums should be seen in person to really appreciate what they can do.

the Star kits are AWESOME! I don't get why Tama likes making those super short toms though, the sound is just never as rich, although with the bubinga wood, they're tolerable.

Yes, STAR has more of a vintage sound and feel while Starclassic is more of a modern sound and feel. Hope that helped!

Yeah, pretty much all that stuff he detailed about in the hardware. Also I believe these are more "hand built" as they say by the guys in Japan, as opposed to the Starclassics which most of which are now done in China. Tama is basically saying they made these drums to be as resonant as possible. If Starclassics are modern custom, these are kind of vintage boutique.

Tuned WAYYY too high. Still sounds great but I thought the whole point of Bubinga is that it is low. It still has a nice round and relatively low but it can get way lower.

It's funny while he's explaining the new tom mount quick lock brackets, as he is putting the tom back onto the mount, he forgets it's the quick lock and tries to tighten the actual memory lock which would be the normal screw for a normal mount. Haha thought that was funny. He's standing there showing it off and saying, instead of a traditional tom mount, you just do this with this lock and unlock switch, and then goes to tighten the memory lock screw.

I'm glad i bought the green 7 piece bubinga select kit when i did.I just seenTama came out with the star drums which don't sound any better the the bubinga select.It's basically sleight deviations that really make no difference.i dont like the new memory locks and i can put a piece of rubber between the metal if i wanted to.i don't like the feet as they allow the bass drum to move.I like the 10 lugs on the snare so i really can crank it.The tom holder is a rip off of sonors idea.

Aditya Rifqi Tama star drums are the best drums on the planet imo. But you don’t judge drums off of price. I have a Tama starclassic bb hyperdrive which aren’t expensive at all, got mine for 1800 for a 5 piece. Imo Tama starclassics sound better than any other brands top flagship level drums. It’s all preference and what you look for. Dw collectors are some of the most expensive drums out there with certain exotic woods and it sounds like poop to my ears. I’d take a Tama starclassic over any dw collectors kit any day. I can buy like 3 starclassic bb’s for the price of certain dw collectors series kits. Also those smaller brand custom drum companies like sjc, truth, pork pie, all charge crazy amounts for a tiny 3 piece basic maple kit with basic hardware and basic rims mounting features and throw on some generic tube lugs with Keller shells. Even though sjc just started making their own shells, all this time they’ve been using Keller shells. Nothing wrong with Keller but those smaller custom companies charge soooooo much since it’s a smaller team and charge mainly for their tacky custom finishes for those scene bands. One of those basic 3 piece sjc kits cost much more than my 5 piece stArclassic, and no question the starclassics sound feel better, best build quality and best hardware in the business.
