I didn't know what this instrument was called until relatively recently, but I've always loved it. I probably first heard it in George Harrison's songs.

I started to watch videos of Sitar and the Sitar is "the star" in all videos, but I notice that there was another sound, there was too much magic only to be from Sitar, so I notice the person behind in many videos with that little, simple and vertical instrument that both almost disapear from the videos and I knew it, but nobody said something about that, everyone talking about the sitar and the relationship between the person who plays the sitar and the person who plays the drums. I knew it that the real magic become from other place, more quiet, insignificant, unseen... everyone always Thinks... and mind is a bad guide, because always praise and admire the wrong people, the wrong thinks. Finaly today I saw a video where they put the name of the 3 musicians and the name of their instruments and finally I know it: Tambura. And know I arrive here. Tambura is the real magic. Sitar is something just a little more than a guitar. But Tambura... : ) that's whay nobody cares Tambura. The most important things are invisible for the eyes (the little Prince) and the mind. Thank you.

@whitewalker6083 жыл бұрын
@@PaulTheSkeptic To be honest, rock and metal is also improvisation. They require a lot of theoretical knowledge as well. It's difficult to play ragas on a guitar though because ornaments can't be played well on a guitar. Indian classical is I think more intricate but amazing at the same time.
@PaulTheSkeptic3 жыл бұрын
@@whitewalker608 More intricate than, rock and metal? The only part there where I might take a little issue is the word rock. Just because it's such a huge genre that spans so much ground. It's hard to put "rock" into a box. But I think I know what you mean. I do own a sitar but I must admit I'm not really familiar with all the intricacies of raga or instrument technique. But you can play "ornaments" on guitar. I guess you mean it would be difficult to play the ornaments they play on sitar with a guitar. And getting back to the thing you said about improvisation, sure a lot of it. Improvisation is a part of a lot of music. Even classical and some forms of opera. Baroque opera for example. Unfortunately, the improvisational nature of classical has slowly eroded over the years as the composed section meant for players who aren't so strong became standardized. I guess my point is that improvisation is a huge part of music everywhere. East, west. Modern, early. Sorry. I'm, kind of a music nerd. All that stuff might not be interesting for everyone. Just making conversation and as usual, getting a bit carried away.

My mind was revolving around some thoughts but when I heard the music from your instrument, my mind became so light. @ugobarralimpa76086 жыл бұрын
Hi, Ranjani. How are you? I'm brazilian and don't speak english but i will try. I bought a tampura by internet. It was tuned but it doesn't makes that characteristic "noise" like a buzz (with many harmonics) at the end of decay of the sound, like every tampura that i see in youtube. It's sounding like a unplugged guitar, the sound not continues. It's not the voicemail of a indian instrument, that makes that beautiful drone, like a golden timbre.I don't know if i'm explaining right. Did you understand? :) Can you give me a help? Thanks a lot.

@VatsalJain-8 жыл бұрын
+SubhanZombie The tanpura is much lighter than you might originally think. The neck is made of wood and yes, all of it is hollow. The strings are made of metals and alloys such as brass , aluminium, etc. I don't know what the gauge is, though. :)

So in western terms, it's a G, a perfect 5th or a D, an octave or another G and then it seems like the last string just doubles the octave G creating a third G. Is that correct? I want one. Tamburas are so cool.
@argonwheatbelly6375 жыл бұрын
Yes. Normally, the pa over the lower sa, the two higher sa's, then the lower sa. Let sa = whatever your comfortable pitch is. Now, the plucking feels very 4/4, but the pieces may be in almost any tala (rhythmic cycle), so the tambura players are very much an anchor for a performance. Why two with the same pitch? Given a linear plucking sequence, it doubles the length of the middle note, making it "shimmer" longer. Pa 2 sa-sa Sa 6 7 8. Play legato. I prefer the tambura over the harmonium. But that's me. Actually, I use a Śruti box on my cell phone for when I practice.
