Now that you mention it, I get this vibe of like a creepy-existential-horror short film, where the main character essentially dies and time resets for him, literally the clock resets with a sound, and the song plays at chorus part while time goes back like in a playback. He feels blissful briefly. Then the music semi-abruptly stops and he comes back to his senses, and dread returns. Where he spawns, idk.

When this came out I posted the lyrics as a Facebook status cause ya know, that's what we did back then. So without context it just said "it feels like I only go backwards" and my uncle was the only one to comment. He said "simply turn around, young man." And damn if that doesn't hit me so hard 10 years later.

Backwards, ahead, hopes up, not again. This song is absolutely perfect. The way the lyrics are sung and produced brings constant waves pushing in both directions, while the drums have this weird, rolling, forward backward tripping feel to them. All while the bass sings in your ear and the synth and vocals fill the space. On top of that these smackin' visuals and you got a video I watch every time I trip. Thank you Tame Impala

I remember when this video came out, I'd just found Tame Impala maybe a year before and Kevin Parker quickly became a huge inspiration to me in life. And this music video was really what pushed that over the edge. I'm so glad this is back on KZbin, for a long while I could only find it on Vimeo. I only played trumpet then, but I've since studied guitar and bass, and I'm working on learning piano and drums, as well as writing, recording, and mixing my own music. I may still be years away from releasing an EP, but I cannot understate the impact this one man, even this one video, had on my life.

This song holds a special place in my heart I don't know another song that induces the same feeling. It's the epitome of cognitive dissonance and how two things can simultaneously happen hence why it zooms in and out at the same time . Finding truth while getting more lost in uncertainty. This song really has a meaning with me.. the lyrics saying “it feels like I only go backwards” is practically saying being stuck in the same loop unable to break the loop but knowing even if it’s hard to break from the loop you’ll have to sacrifice everything just to be your truest happiest self, it’s so worth it. But even after you get what you want you’ll still remember everything you’ve brought with you therefore feeling “like you only go backwards”

When i was in universty, my friend showed me this song when we smoked. There was five of us, sometimes six, but every time we smoked, we would always spark up the last one and put this video on. I was supposed to graduate with these guys a few weeks ago, and over the course of university we became a small, weird, but very real family. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic I moved out six months ago and back to my home country. I miss my brothers. This song takes me back to them every time.

This song is about knowing you have to move on, although you still love the person that left. But the incertainty of whether that person still loves you or not, leaves you with a feeling of emptyness, indecision and hope. You bring your hopes up, but eventually your expectations shatter and you go back to the start. Feeling alone and sad once again, you search for any possible sign of love by that person so that you can decieve yourself another time into thinking that he/she loves you. Great song!!!!

@@aosplflf5973 I took acid and hanged out with two of my best friends (one of them on acid aswell and the other guy just trip sitting) and it was amazing. But when the acid hit me I panicked and started to freak out. I thought I would never be sober again and I would be stuck like that forever. We were outside by a river in the summer, mind you, and one of my friend had a bluetooth speaker and started playing our spotify playlist. This song came on and I immediately felt a wave of pure bliss and relaxation, it was one of the most memorable moments in a long while. After that hurdle I could finally enjoy the acid trip.

I don't think the people ranting about how the Beatles were so much more "complex" than Tame Impala has any real understanding of music. The Beatles are my favourite band, but their songs are not "complex" per se, they're just very original and entertaining and great to listen to. Tame Impala have written plenty of songs with musical structures on the same level as the Beatles. They've come up with some awesome chord progressions and melodies.

@gorgolyt
@gorgolyt 9 жыл бұрын
***** I think complex is the wrong word. An example of a complex chord progression would be one which was fifty chords long or something. Your typical Beatles chord progression is not complex. However, it is often highly original, unusual, ingenious, and just straight-up awesome to listen to.

***** I already said the Beatles are my favourite band, so why on Earth do you think I haven't given Revolver a "good thorough listen"? I must have listened to it a hundred times. Give an example of a structurally complex song on Revolver and explain why.

Like many others, I have a memory of this song involving some good ol mushrooms. What stands out though, I remember being fixated on the video and the 00:58 mark, I remember feeling very anxious and wanting both out of the trip, and the music itself. But I rode it out… and I felt the remainder of the video was a visual treat/reward for staying in the moment. I love this song, I love how it makes me feel and remember.

I’ve been searching and thinking about this song since I only heard it on TikTok for a little bit and I couldn’t find it until now. I’m legitimately crying because I’ve finally found a hidden treasure that I was looking for after all of these months

I was expecting a more neo-psychedelic tone and not this, but I definitely enjoy this band a lot. Reminds me more of The Flaming Lips than what I was expecting, something more like Apples in Stereo
