GoliathWarfare it goes from Polaroid cameras to dslr cams. One example of the time change. The clothing and dance moves are significant to different time periods. They were even installing an old juke box in the back corner during the first progression. I think your right in saying it got better over time, but I think that’s the idea behind the time changes. Technology, humanity, fashion, etc. improve over time. Change is scary and for people who can’t except new ideas/attitudes, they’re ‘lost in yesterday’; hence the angry wedding crashers at the end. ( I believe the lady throwing the flowers was the bride in the first progression, but I could be wrong)

And why was I ever so brainless? Head in a flurry 'Cause if they call you Embrace them If they stall you Erase them 'Cause it might have been something, who's to say? Does it help to get lost in yesterday? And you mighta missed something, don't say 'Cause it has to be lost in yesterday And you're gonna have to let it go someday You've been digging it up like Groundhog Day 'Cause it might have been something, don't say 'Cause it has to stay lost in yesterday So if it calls you Embrace it If it haunts you Face it I know it's mad I understand It's only snakes And ladders The period You never had There's only one That matters And if it calls you Embrace it If it holds you Erase it (replace it) Thnx for the likes =)

For those who'd like an explanation of the video: every time the camera spins around is a re-remembering of the wedding. A little better than the last time.

And then on the final spin chaos breaks loose. Reminding you that humankind, while capable of evolving culturally, is still prone to devolving into chaos even in the "best" of times.

@@TrevorMFTW I see it as the bride remembering her wedding for what it really was rather than how everyone else sees it, who are trying to make it out to be better than it actually was. Yano the whole stigma around memory.. the further away a memory is the nicer it seems but for her it’s not like that because it was her wedding and it probably effected her whole life (notice how she isn’t pregnant in the last memory but the real her is)
@dustinsanders72574 жыл бұрын
better? I'm pretty sure the cake got ruined and someone got slapped.
@ali-58814 жыл бұрын
@@dustinsanders7257 well, if you watch the video you’ll notice the wedding gets better with every turn, until the end where it is at it’s “best” because it was a long time ago at this point so you are more prone to remembering the good things (which is psychologically true) but for some people the wedding had nothing good to remember- the bride and the woman that threw someones drink- (and probably others) so at the end this is the real bride coming into the wedding and showing them how it really was- after all she’s more likely to remember how it was because it’s her wedding. She causes damage and points a knife at everyone because they’re intruding the real memory and they’re basically imposters of her memory because if you watch the first camera rotation there were a lot less people and they seemed a lot more miserable and even dressed different... This is just my take on it anyway you don’t need to understand or follow it 🤷🏻♂️

@@ali-5881 GREAT expansion and explanation of the cake-in-the face. Love it :) .
@starbender54684 жыл бұрын
I wonder how much math and effort was put into this video. Every time around, the actors had to perform their actions as the camera was on them, and change dressing. The camera takes exactly 1:00 every time around, and each time it's recorded at a higher framerate and wider aspect ratio. Not only that, but Kevin and the band had to be on time with the lyrics and instrumentation even though the framerate was raised and speed was lowered. Incredible. Each time I watch it, I notice more and more things. It is the perfect metaphor for false nostalgia. I love it. EDIT: A lot of people seem to be pointing out that there are cuts between each section of the video, and that seems very likely. But even with the separate takes, they still would have to figure out the exact timing for each event to take place and still have the lyrics and music match up with the new frame rate.
@zebbleganubi7234 жыл бұрын
i was thinking about that as well, how it would be really hard to get the vocals lined up each time so i went looking for other transitions. there might be another one at 0:36 where its panning across the empty tables. it still looks like it would have been a nightmare to shoot either way though
@timesup28124 жыл бұрын
@@zebbleganubi723 Wait now I'm confused on where the tricky parts are? What I see is the main transition for the scene and aspect ratio change is when the waiter's back walks into the frame, they probably added his back as a mask layer to the previous frame/video to help transition. Then for the actors it's probably positioning, choreography and direction with sound indicators maybe. There's no specific lyric they're aiming for when panning to TI, though the first and third chorus do seem to line up, so there probably was adjustment in timing and speed of camera movements there, later polished in editing. And then for the slow motion part I'd assume they've done that thing where you speed up the song and have the singer lipsync to the sped up version so it looks dreamy when slowed down and is in line with the regular song. Is there something more I missed? I'm genuinely asking🙈, I'm not an expert in filmography. But yeah I do agree calculating it well would have been very tricky.

Every time you recall a memory, you unintentionally alter it. Alterations can be repeatedly made in a direction that emphasizes certain parts of that story (exaggerations like "oh I remember how that guy was sooo tall" just because him being tall stuck out the most to you). Now for something as joyous as a wedding, though the actual day might have been in a dingy room with a small cake and miserable guests, the person whose perspective the video represents is able to overlook the problems of yesterday and focus on the overall brightness of the occasion. So each time they recall the memory, it's altered in a more positive direction, until the end where they begin to dwell on one of the imperfect parts of the wedding (pregnant bride, drinking lady) and let it taint the otherwise great progress they were making to move forward.

The music video is about how we embellish memories more and more as time passes. The first scene is the truth, with all the sadness, anger, embarrassment, and happiness that comes with it. As the scenes progress, the wedding reception gradually turns into a hyper-perfect unrealistic fantasy where the key characters are changed into “better” ones with entirely different actors for the bride, groom, smoking woman, father, etc. But then the original pregnant bride and smoking woman break into this unrealistic fantasy, refusing to be forgotten or glossed over, and wreck the fake party. This is my analysis, hope it helps!
@allonsyisabelli4 жыл бұрын
I really like how the memories literally change the people involved, like the smoking lady and the pregnant bride by the third act. It's like when we try to forget the bad people that were part of our lives and memories, until they come back to remind us that yes, _they_ happened.
@allonsyisabelli4 жыл бұрын
Also, the couple at the bar! It's definitely my favorite detail because it hits home a lot. How the lady is very annoyed by the guy's advances, and doesn't feel anything for him. But in the end it's just like "aww, what a cute couple" I say it hits home because it just happens a lot. There's this couple that we think that they look good together, that we think they should've stayed together, and we start to remember the times in which they were happy together, except that these memories and just sugarcoated, and their relationship was far more complicated than how we remembered it.

I am ready to assign this video to my student as a film literature assignment. I think the first pass is the "actual" event/memory (wedding). Each successive pass is the revised memories of some of the guests: nicer clothes, elegant style, appearances that indicate successes in life: the father figure at the cake table goes from sullen to joyful, the bridesmaid pairs with the guy mouthing "I love you" to the bride(?), the couple at the bar go from contempt to engaged; the guy at the end of the bar becomes a sailor; the band goes from reel to reel to live musicians; the woman on the phone goes from sad to happily hugging a man; the wheelchair-bound man goes from chair, to walker, to standing; the food tables, decorations, the mother figure and the wedded couple become idealized. The final scene may represent how the bride and some attendants at the wedding feel about the original memory: what ties them together is the bride and the mother figure, who are both represented the same as in the first scene. The bride's real contempt for the original situation is revealed ("... that was time that I hated from day one/eventually terrible memories turn into great ones...")("The period, you never had/There's only one that matters"). The mother figure snatching the champagne glass out of the idealized version of her signifies her disappointment and contempt of how she was/has been portrayed/remembered. All of the characters remember and for some of them the memories were distorted in ways that may have been difficult for some of them to face.

I know this sounds strange, but i felt a huge connection to each character somehow. How they all were bored, passive agressive, hurt, annoyed at the beginning and slowly starting to open up, having fun, trying to forget, smiling, dancing and letting go. This shows exactly how we human beings are fragile in many ways. ´´Eventually terrible memories turned into great ones.´´ that is a huge part of this song and video, I think. That we are longing for the past, we are denying how terrible our past was but making it seem like it was everything and better than today.
