I love the shallow, layered boxes. Much easier to find things. I have several left over gift boxes from Christmas. This is a perfect way to use them. ❤

Yes, gift boxes would be great! I hope you’ll give it a try. The nice thing about this system is that you can fit it to your needs and if you don’t like it, it’s only cardboard!

I separate my scraps into these categories: large, white, strips, small and tiny. I also have some items in separate containers such as labels, tickets, postage stamps, etc.

I have scraps organized but they're in various boxes and baskets all over my craft room. It's cumbersome and I do forget what I have in those containers. I think your system is exactly what I need to corral everything in one location. And I have tons of cardboard boxes from Amazon I can cut up into nesting trays. So glad I found your video! This winter, I plan to organize my craft room. I recently got hooked on junk journals and have used large plastic envelopes to sort by theme. I also have a ton of older paper scraps just piled randomly in a couple of trays, so now I can incorporate them into the journal scraps and re-think how I contain them. The trays seem like they utilize precious space better! Glad I happened upon your video...Thanks!!!

I might just mention that you can try it out with any shallow nesting containers, like these cardboard trays. But you don’t have to decorate them til you know if you like the system. Or spray paint is really quick, haha.

@ I did not Donna, sadly. I got it in a little church bookstore many years ago and it was well used when I covered it with Contact paper and repurposed it in the studio. You could perhaps make something similar with two small cardboard boxes glued to a square “handle” piece. Or just any file box really, that would fit your paper.

8:20 Your stack of trays idea is so awesome! I always thought the trays need lids to stack something on top but hey, no, you can do without with the right size of the trays. I make my own trays and boxes from cardboard and strips of wood (my husband cuts those on my demand) and I will certainly try this idea. Thanks!!

Your nesting tray system is brilliant! I love seeing storage that has been created to suit how a person works because it not only solves a problem but makes creating easier. You have nailed it. I love shallow storage, especially drawers but also trays. I get overwhelmed by seeing all the things. I’m definitely going to think on adding size as a component - thank you for so much inspiration.

So I too have a shoe box for large pieces and medium and small. But I don’t have that much stash as you do since I’m new to this I guess. But I do have a sizable amount of scraps and once the project is done I put them away in see through zip lock bags. I need to add two more shoe boxes for focal points and accents! It’s so funny that I see this video now. I’ve been busy cleaning and reorganizing my scraps, and I did decide to go with a size organization for my scraps. I do have sizes for some of my tiniest scraps that have particular purposes, but I also decided to put the large, medium and smalls in Different tubs and containers as well. I’m working on paper, as well as fabrics and fibers! What I need to do now more consistently, is to do more scrap busting activities (master boards, etc) when my containers start overflowing! I do love my scraps! 😃❤️

I like to stick labels on everything too. I roped in my grands from next door, to put papers in the correct trays. Had to watch the wee ones, of course. I'd pick a paper up, call out it's "name" (butterflies etc) and hand it to the child, grab the next paper ditto, while correcting anyone getting confused. Now I'm shifting house, I need to repeat it all and weed out stuff. This is perfect inspiration!

Your system resonates with me. I think i will try some version of it. My dining room doubles as my creating space, so i will first need to assess my space and figure out if there is a good place to house the trays and what sizes can be accommodated. I love my nesting tray system - it's similar to mine but I use a system for each journal I work on - so all the scraps are related to that book - it's exhausting! But then I love using the leftovers when the book is finished to make little book page masterboards to be cut up later (like yours)

I have loads of scraps and have tried to sort but after a while I feel overwhelmed by it all. I have too many plastic tubs and I stack them with labels on the front to see where everything is, but it still seems there are far too many tubs in my small craft space. I LOVE how your brain works! What a useful yet creative layered tray concept and that we can make these for ourselves for our process! For sure taking this idea 💡 and adapting for my way of crafting! I’ve struggled to layer things and this may make all the difference - it’s so true that if we have things organized it’s easier to do all the things! “What is the job the scrap will do?” Great question to ask ourselves! I do have scraps in trays, but they don't really stack and take up a lot of room. Your stacking system is really what l need and it looks great in your craft room 🤩. I've been snowed in here in Yorkshire (UK) since Saturday, so l'm loving this decluttering series and have been working daily on sorting my craftroom 😇 😂

I love this system Kathleen! I already do this for the magazine pictures I use for glue books but didn't think to do the same for my scraps. I need to get some boxes cut up and get organizing. i love that you even have a Tim Holtz tray. That is one I'll make for sure as his stuff is all over my craft room! 🩷🩷🩷
