Feather/skin contact with foraged moss is a much bigger concern than potentially eating it, as it can harbor mites and other parasites that are too tiny to see. Definitely recommend getting terrarium-grade moss (meant for reptiles and other pets), probably less expensive from a specialty pet store than from Micheals.
