Above all, directors lack of creativity and more focus on action genres - showing creativity only in designing deadly weapons,gory action scenes and use of profanity for heroism. This trend will never give any opportunity for quality songs but only mass hero BGM..

It is not only Tamil Music bro, Now a days, nobody is hiring singers to sing for their songs. It's usually the MD's themselves, the hero or Aniruth( he sings in other MD's songs ). Also now producers have stopped investing in songs. Back in the day ARR, YSR, HJ, Raja everyone used to have big recording studios, lyricists, director, producer, situations explained, all that elaborate. These days, Lokesh himself confessed he never sat with Ani during song recording and proudly claiming he doesn't understand music and sound recording. Back in the day, movies were only 2hr30mins long and even with those constraints our directors delivered 30mins vivek/vadivelu comedy, 30mins songs for each movie. Now movies are over 3hours long but only 2 songs, no comedy tracks and 100% hero worship, which gets tiring after some time. Producers treat songs like fast food: listen 2 times, put status in instagram, forget after sometime. SaNa has been cornered and cucked by our Tamil Industry( so long for Social justice smh ). All the good song composers in the current time are staying underrated. This is not the trend tho... All other languages, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam movies are taking songs and sound design seriously. In conclusion, music should be taken seriously for a film

💯💯💯 I noticed this back in the day the movies used to have comedy tracks and so much depth to them even if they were separate from the original plot line. Nowadays the filmmakers are struggling to push one storyline into a 2 hour movie. Especially the songs the songs were meant to be a breather to enjoy the scenes to celebrate the hero to convey the emotions ex "vennilave vennilave.. vinnaythandi varuvaya" was meant to make Prabhu deva and Kajol to fall in love. Now that element is heavily missing.

I agree with your views. You are talking about Tamil movies. But I need to share some information out of subject - ARR has created a tsunami in Hindi with the film "Chamkila" "Vidha karoo" (pathos - your heart will bleed), Ishq Mitay hai (peppy), "Tu Kya jaane" ( heart touching romantic); "Naram Kaalja" (You must listen this - pure joy). "Baaja" (Rap). In addition in Maidaan also he has given good songs (not to the level of Chamkila but still the songs are good - "Ranga Ranga" (peppy), Team India hain hum ( motivating - albeit reminding Lagan song), "Mirza" (romantic - Qawaali style - excellent). It looks like the directors have to choose the right tunes from ARR. Where Hindi directors are using him properly, Tamil directors are still going for generic - typical tunes even from ARR ifficult to listen without tea

If you are not taking AR Rahman into account, then mostly what you are saying is True. But AR Rahman is single handedly elevating NOT ONLY the level of Tamil Music but the level of World Music itself. Unfortunately, most of our Tamil Music lovers are either NOT able to understand or appreciate it. For most of our Tamil Music lovers, the only thing that matters is the song’s ability to put them to sleep (like a Lullaby) or it’s Nativity or it’s karaoke (ability to be sung along with) nature. Just because, you like lullaby songs doesn’t mean that they are the best type of songs. It’s like saying “Puliyodharai or Sambar or Curd” rice iS the best type of food out there or the person cooking them IS the Best CHEF just because you like it. It’s really that simple. To understand an AR Rahman song, the first thing you need to understand is “What is the Emotion the song is trying to convey”. And then “How effectively it is trying to convey it”. Before we understand the Emotion angle, one more very basic thing you need to understand about AR Rahman songs is that most of his songs, especially his slow poison songs take time to grow on you. So, it is very important that you listen at least a couple of times (3 to 5 times preferably) to warm up to his songs and enjoy them. This is because he is constantly innovating and breaking all existing musical patterns and paradigms that we all are used to that it takes some time for our minds to wrap themselves around his songs and slowly begin to comprehend them. So, there might be this starting trouble because of his constant innovation. But once you go past it and start to enjoy the songs, you will soon become completely addicted to them. Now, let us get back to the emotion angle. His songs are all primarily about the emotions they are meant to evoke in you. For example, Just because you want to listen to a Lullaby all the time doesn’t mean He is going to give you a soothing War Song. That would be meaningless. He will give you a “Chola Chola” song (Ponniyin Selvan I) if you have to feel the emotion of a War. It has to be a rousing War Anthem like he has given to make you instantly feel that you are in the middle of a War. Similarly, if the Emotion has to make you feel the romantic playfulness, he would give you “Sol, Sol” (from same movie). If he wants you to feel the ambience of a sacrificial ritual, he would give you a “Devaraalan Aattam” (same movie). If he wants you to feel the pain of a tragic love, he would give you “Chinnanchiru Nilavae” (PS II). If he wants you to feel the celebratory mood of a Royal crowning, he would give you “Veera, Raaja Veera” (PS II). If he wants you to feel the emotion of a traveling Royal messenger admiring the beauty of a scenic countryside in a period Chola Kingdom, he would give you “Ponni Nadhi” (PS I). If he wants you to feel the ambience of the sea, he would give you “Alaikadal” (PS I). If he wants you to feel the ambience of a mythological street drama involving Krishna and Kansa, he would give you “Raatchasa Maamaney” (PS II). If he wants you to feel the tragic death and the betrayal/sacrifice surrounding it, he would give you the other version of “Chinnanchiru Nilave” (Reprise version) or “Ilayor Soodaar”. I can go oN and ON and ON. I have given you examples from just two of his movies but the same concept of emotion applies to all his movie songs. Each and every song of AR Rahman can be fully understood or appreciated or enjoyed only in the light of the emotion it is intended to evoke in you. Not because you want to feel the same Lullaby effect every time you listen to a song. Our people don’t understand this simple fact. That’s why I used the analogy of Puliyodharai/Sambar” comfort food analogy to make everyone understand it easily. The Genius of AR Rahman is that his songs can make anyone in the entire universe intuitively understand the associated emotion regardless of whether they understand the lyrics or not. That’s why he is able to cross the barriers of language, region and culture better than any other composer on the planet so far. In the process of becoming universal, his songs might lose a little bit of nativity and that is another reason our listeners cannot fully enjoy many of his songs. “Mallipoo” is a song that retains the nativity as much as our listeners want and that’s why they enjoy it more. The other problem our listeners have is whether they can easily sing along with the song. It is important to them but that IS not the main criteria for a good song. Many of Rahman’s motivational and tragic songs can be sung along with but NOT all of them are easy to sing along with. He doesn’t compose songs only for you to sing along with them. He composes songs mainly to convey the emotion effectively. That’s his main objective. Not to serve your objective of going to sleep with a lullaby or singing along (karaoke objective). As for his musical creativity and all other musical wizardry, neither I nor you nor any other musical wizard on this planet can either fully understand or fully explain it. He has probably accomplished in just a dozen of his initial movies what most other top movie music composers took a lifetime to achieve. He is the most creative movie music composer ever to Grace this planet. Period.

Gasolina whole song is nice song only. but if they use some other word instead of the word gasolina, it would be nice and the song video also not that good to watch.... Plus music directors are not using different voices for different song. Most of the songs sing by music director only. So, when we hear its boring... when different singers sings will get different flavours and professional singers bend the notes nicely. Now a days, Music directors are not using different notes. Most of the songs are within scale only...they should add up some extra notes to make a song beautiful. Its just my perspection.
