Thank you. I went for Stem cell transplant for my blood cancer early this year. I was lucky my brother and I had 100% HLA matching. He was my donor. Don't worry bout the procedure. I can explain what a donor will go through. 3 weeks before stem cell extraction from donor, you are required to do full health check to make sure you are healthy, no on-going infection. So, as a donor you need to stay healthy weeks before extraction. I know a case of a donor contracted covid very last minute and complicated a lot of matters for the patient. 5 days before extraction, you need to go for daily injection to stimulate stem cell release from bone marrow into blood stream. On extraction day, you will be warded, a PICC line will be inserted into your arm for blood extraction. The machine will extract the stem cell from your blood and return the rest back to your body. Around 6-8 hr procedure. End of the day the line will when removed and you can go back home. Next 2 days you might feel some back pain which you can take some painkiller for it. 🙏

I was diagnosed with blood cancer one year ago. Did Stem Cell transplant early this year. I was fortunate my brother and I has 100% HLA matching. He was my donor. I encourage all of you to register as donor. Don't worry you will not suffer any side effect from being a donor. My brother was also very scared initially. For 5 days prior to stem cell extraction, you need to visit the clinic for daily injection to stimulate the release of Stem cell into blood stream. On 6th day there will be a small procedure to insert a PICC line into your arm to draw the blood. You need to spend half day at the hospital. At the end of the day they will remove the line and you are good to go. You might feel some back pain for 1 or 2 days which you can just take some painkillers for it. 🙏
