I've spent the last year really cleaning up my speech, only through the grace and mercy of our Lord has it worked. I work in construction so I'm constantly being influenced to speak curse words, and only by continuous focus on His word and allowing the Holy Spirit to dwell within me can I overcome. Praise the Lord, for He is so good

Amen. Feeling very convicted here 🥺 Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

This teaching was so good and convicting. I am that person who speaks one way at church & fellow Christians and then another way around worldly unbelievers. As James states, this should NOT be. As true followers of Christ, our words are to make people and not to break them, our words are to bring them to God and not drive them away from God. Thank you for this message ❣

Thank you for this lesson of encouragement! I fail in this area time after time when I am emotionally invested in a discussion being had (tested mostly by non-believers). Especially when over-stressed with worldly things. Please pray for my increased wisdom and ability. Thank you. The thought just came that whenever I start getting negative (angry) to put a smile on my face and turn it into a positive (peace). That is what Jesus seemed to do All The Time. I need to practice this consistently!

I’ve always thought that verbal abuse was equally as harmful as physical abuse. The scars of verbal abuse aren’t visible but words can destroy one’s spirit in a split second and damage self esteem as well. Thank you for elaborating on this painful subject.

I know my tongue has been my demise. I upset myself when I reflect. I know God knows my heart and the times when it has been used for evil (justification because I felt hurt), I know better. I’m actively seeking ways to better myself. Taming of the tongue is by far a subject I will hone in on. I’m grateful God has been sending me these messages.

you're not alone, brother! how easy it is to let our anger and pride get the best of us and forget life and death are in the power of the tongue! it feels good at the moment to react to our feelings but i feel grieved minutes after, knowing i did not please God in my thoughts, words, and actions!! praying for you, may the Holy Spirit be the rudder/bit that gives you self-control in those times.

To truly appreciate this responsibility of “teaching the Word of God”, is very sobering, and should cause a very great priority in KNOWING WHAT GOD IS SAYING TO HIS PEOPLE, SO THAT THEY WILL GROW TO LOVE AND RESPECT THE LORD MORE AND AND WANT TO CALL ON HIM, MORE….AND NOT US. Every “spiritual gift” is FOR THE “COMMON GOOD” OF THE BODY OF CHRIST” (1 Corinthians 12:7) AND that should lead to honoring the GOD OF ALL GLORY FIRST AND FINALLY!! And remember…as Christ warned through the Apostle Paul, also, to NOT GIVE THE “TREASURE” OF THE WORD OF GOD, AND THE UNDERSTANDING OF IT, ONLY TO “RELIABLE” MEN.

Many years ago, there was a woman in our neighborhood who also went to the same church we did and in a Bible study once she said, "I just say what ever comes to my mind! I think that if I THINK it I might as well SAY IT!!" And our pastor looked at her and shook his head and said, "I wish you would not." Now she is also the same woman who stated many time that SHE DID NOT READ BOOKS or NEWSPAPERS and if it were not ON TELEVISON she would not know it. That repeated, proudly, statement always made me wonder if since the Bible is a BOOK, if she had ever read any of it or did she just rely on Holywood's version of the Bible and Christianity. When I heard the statement she made about not holding back any of her words, I knew the answer.

Thank you for another wonderful teaching on the book of James. In relation to gossip & criticism, something I have always been sensitive to. When does it become gossip & criticism if you're expressing your concerns, observations of another person to someone that is not that person? This is something I try to avoid but have witnessed recently & really would like to avoid talking about. If anyone has any thoughts please share.
@helloworld84922 жыл бұрын
I think a question you should ask yourself is, are you explaining something factually to obtain counsel about it? Are you calm when explaining it? Are you sharing important details, or are you sharing info that would cast someone in a bad light, which the person you're talking to doesn't need to know? Use discretion. Refrain from sharing what you don't need to share. It's difficult at first but then your life becomes so much better. Just complaining about someone because you need to vent is not a good reason to gossip.

See Romans 6:13-14….we as His, now, “born again”, have a physical body with many parts to now serve Him with each part, dedicated to GOD’S HONOR AND GLORY,,, including the “tongue”, and most of all the “TONGUE”. Proverbs 18:2, 21, Proverbs 25:11. A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

You might also want to discuss the self-control of NOT SPEAKING to someone in certain situations, like: Like pulling on a dog’s ears is to enter into an argument between 2 people that is not your own. “Meddling” is a “tongue problem” and considered a “sin” listed in 1 Peter 4:15…you might also watch to teach on or do a “word-study” on the word: respect. Thank you for your reminder today.
