Facts are facts, and the simple fact is that it is Landon Donovan is the greatest American soccer player ever. He's the closest thing we've ever had to a star. He's a true leader. Mentally, no American player, neither Dempsey nor Bradley or anyone else, has been as smart and was the kind of leader Donovan was for the United States. He took our country to places no one believed we could have been. Absolute travesty that Klinsmann left him out of the Brazil squad. I don't care what Klinsmann does for this team I will never forgive him for leaving Donovan out. He should've been the first name on the sheet. Leaving him out was the most German thing that's ever happened to our country.

Landon being left off the World Cup Squad was the worst snub I've ever seen...why Klinsmann chose Wondo (or Julian Green, a bench warmer for Bayern's fourth team) over Donovan is something I will never understand (or forgive him for).

Throughout Donovans career with USA, mexicans never respected Donovan. Despite that, Donovan never got a red card vs Mexico nor any other match while playing for USA. A true professional that never really got appreciation until he retired. I feel like mexicans were really jealous of Donovans talent as an american. Thank you Donovan for showing respect during the soccer games while wearing the USA jersey.

Donovan said in an interview that he saw clips of players and one of those was Gabriel Batistuta (batigol), the truth is that his way of executing the goals is very similar, how wonderful it would have been to see him in the 2021 United States team together with Dest , Reyna, Pulisic, it would be something extraordinary to see him play for the current national team.

He's not... and there's really no way he can catch up in the few years he has left with the team. Dempsey is 32 and has 52 combined goals and assists. Donovan that many at the age of 25. The most combined goals and assists Dempsey has had in a year is 8 (in 2013). Donovan has met or exceeded that number in eight different years. In 2013 alone he had 16 combined goals and assists.

TamingOfTheTube dempsey already has 40 goals hes only 17 goals away from landon donovans goal record and dempsey has 45 less caps then donovan, in 45 caps im willing to bet dempsey will score atleast 18 goals to pass donovan in goals scored. they are strikers so while donovan was a great assist man dempseys role is not to assist its to score goals which he is abt to do more of then any player in american history.. and more importantly its not even just about the numbers u have to be more educated than that. for example the different opponents. landon donovan played for coaches where he was playing against teams like egypt and irrelevants teams that even the us was beating 6-0. while dempsey has played some of those nations too he hasnt played against nearly as many cupcakes as donovan did. hes scored a lot of goals under jurgen klnsy who schedules friendlies against the likes of germany, netherlands, switzerland, denmark , etc. strong euro nations. we can just agree to disagree i understand ur points but this is how i look at it.

Last year he led the US National Team in goals, assists, and chances created. He had a rough start in MLS, but had 3 goals and 1 assist in the two games since he was cut from the USMNT. He is still one of the top 3 field players for the US. He should be at the world cup.
