I have built both 1:35 ISU152(Tamiya) &1:35 ISU122(Dragon)! The "Tamiya ISU152 " has an extra gun barrel for JS2, so I transferred it to my "Dragon ISU122"! The gun barrel fit well and very in scale! 😄 Adding a Dshka. 12.7mm heavy machine gun on the roof!

Found your channel because I was looking for a B/W technique 'how to'. Looks like it takes a bit of time to get right - also using thinner more transparent colour coats too. I liked the look of the beast when it was done. Going to give this one a go. Also subbed as I also watched your CH53 vid - going to keep an eye out for that one as I have a Revell (I think) CH53 in the stash. Great vid thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your comment and sub - I've just finishing a project on brown basing, video should be up tonight/tomorrow - but I intend on getting back and finishing the JSU very soon. I have a backlog of projects that need doing! Cheers, Chris

Really nice how you get the foundation of the B&W-Technique done!!! Bought the book about B&W technique and tried it on some models. I had the same opinions like you. I had teh issue, that if I wanted a good color coverage I ended up overpainting the B&W foundation Iike on your fender. I tried it on a 3-tone-modern-camo and it resulted in a much too big contrast shifts between the colors, so I only used it on one colored vehicles. Your Video gave me inspiration to give this technique an other try! Thanks for sharing and a good start into 2021!

Thanks Leon - first of all, love your channel, the KV-2 is just perfect! Yes, black and white is an interesting technique, I might try it on a 3 tone camo next, good idea - thanks for watching and commenting - cheers, Chris

@@beckersmodels Thank you very much Chris!!! The problem on my attempt with modern 3 tone camo and b&w was, that for example the green showed good contrast, but then the black or the brown almost nothing. So in the end there were too many shifts in contrast between the colors and the paintjob was useless. Best regards, Leon

what is your 'unicorn tears' thinner? I am just starting to experiment with thinning the Tamiya paints (acrylics) to get the best airbrush finish TIA, and keep the vids coming... VERY informative!

I've never attempted a tank before. I've done lots of ships and being a sailor I understand ships weathering etc whereas tanks are a bit of a mystery to me. What sort of details did you feel were missing?
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 2 жыл бұрын
I can't remember now, its a very solid kit, it was just some of the armor/steel textures needed to be added, but that was easy enough. Weathering is a minefield when it comes to tanks....

Interesting method, what size needle and PSI are you using.
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tim. I use a H&S Infinity with 0.2 needle. I'm running about 15-20 PSI, but humidity was really high when I sprayed this, so paint was thinned considerably - like 70-80% thinner to 30-20% paint. Cheers, Chris

Good looking kit, only issues I seen were, your weld beeds are to big. But since it's your 1st go. You'll get better
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rick, yep definitely too big, Ive since done this on a couple 1/48 kits and managed to get the size right. I'll be updating my Takom Object 279s in a similar fashion...cheers Chris

I have tried using this method, but usually end up obliterating the shadow effect. I have better results using variations in tone of the base color, to try an create the same effect.
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 4 жыл бұрын
I can see how easy it is to do that, and yes, I found at the end I had to add variations (highlights only) to the base color...so in effect modulation technique anyway! First time doing this of course...I'm thinking for an olive drab Sherman/M20 I might use very dark OD as the shadow, or just revert back to black basing/marbling instead. Cheers, Chris

@@beckersmodels Yeah, I pretty much follow the way they do it on the Vallejo paint sets. Primer, shadow color (sometimes 2), base color (more or less to clean up the shadow colors), and then the highlight color (again sometimes 2), usually one airbrushed the center of panels, the other brushed on the very top high points. In the end, the effect is the same, just a different way of getting there.

Is it possible to do this technique with a standard brushing application?

Say brushing the dark shadow lines and airbrushing the green coats afterwards? I have trouble doing finer lines with my airbrush
@beckersmodels

Good question and yes it is possible - I did a Tamiya 1/48 KV-2 using only oils with a brush using a similar technique. Cheers, Chris

Ah you can't call it a beast mate. It was known as "Zevroboy" - beast killer because it could take out the German big cats. Excellent vid though, ill definitely try this technique.
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 4 жыл бұрын
Ah hah! Noted - I'll call it that in my next vid. It's an interesting technique, first time I've done it - it has made doing forced contrast a bit easier, which I'll cover in the next part. Cheers, Chris
