I found one of these in the trash recently, complete with remote, 2 batteries and charger. Brought it home, charged the battery and it ran around the yard just as quick as it does in this video. Tires are dry rotted to the point where they’re almost falling off but I’m shopping for a new set now. I’m glad I’ll have something that’s way better than the Walmart junk that’s sold now.

I bought my Blackfoot in the mid 90s used and in running condition for $20. It sat in the basement for 21yrs and still runs today 2021. I've since bringing it out upgraded the shocks,rear hubs (alloy) mil ball diff and cvds . Will do wheelies now and goes about 40 mph . Love it !!!

So cool - thank you for uploading this video that brings back so many fond memories for me. When I was a kid and got my first hobby grade R/C car, a Tamiya Frog, for Christmas there were no R/C monster trucks at all. I enjoyed my Frog a lot but I would have really loved a monster truck like Bigfoot or USA-1 that I saw on TV and obsessed over. The Marui Big Bear came out and was sold at my local hobby shop but it was only 1/12 scale, which was a big turn off for me since I was used to 1/10 scale cars. I liked the Big Bear but I passed on it due to its small size. The Tamiya Bruiser was what I wanted but it was way too expensive. I drooled over it on the shelf at the hobby shop but it was just nowhere near my meager budget back then. (I did eventually get one second hand many years later when I was in my 20s and by then it was very collectable as it had been discontinued for many years.) So, when the Blackfoot was relased in 1986 it was what I wanted - a cheap 1/10 scale monster truck. Since it was based on the Frog chassis, I was very familiar with it and how to assemble it. I immediately bought one and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately though, it being based on the Frog chassis meant that it also had the same rear driveline weakness. The rear drive shafts were one of the weakest points of the Frog and bolting the Blackfoot's much bigger and heavier tires to them made the problem even worse. Just like with the Frog, the way to totally fix that problem was by completely replacing the entire rear driveline with a Thorp ball differential and Thorp universal slider drive shafts but I did not have the budget for that expensive modification. Thus, I had to go really easy on the throttle on my Blackfoot to prevent from stripping out the drive shafts. The Tamiya guys driving in this video probably had access to an endless free supply of spare driveshafts directly from the factory! After driving my Blackfoot for a little while I discovered that what I really wanted was a true 4x4x4 monster truck. The 2WD Blackfoot was great for high speed fun but I quickly found out that what I really wanted was stump pulling torque, like what the full scale monster trucks on TV had. The Blackfoot was great at high speed jumping but terrible at climbing and pulling. I already had R/C cars for high speed driving but I needed a real 4x4 R/C monster truck to do what I wanted to do. The Bruiser would do that but it was just still way too expensive. My local hobby shop also did not sell spare parts for the Bruiser, which was a big strike against it. Thus, my prayers were answered in 1987 when Tamiya released the Clod Buster. At last a real R/C 4x4x4 monster truck just like USA-1 and Bigfoot on my TV! I immediately sold my Blackfoot, which still had the stock driveline, and bought a then brand new Tamiya Clod Buster. (I mail ordered it from America's Hobby Center because my local hobby shop did not have the then brand new Clod Buster in stock.) I have absolutely no regrets about that decision as the Clod Buster was exactly what I wanted all along. I actually still have that same Clod Buster today as I type this. It looks absoolutely nothing like when it was new though as absolutely everything has been replaced with aftermarket parts. (There is a video of it on my channel if you click on my name.) I now have four Clod Buster/Bull Head based trucks in my fleet now. I have never had the urge to get another Blackfoot since I sold mine back in 1987. It was a lot of fun for a short time but it showed me that a true monster truck for me and my use absolutely must have four wheel drive. Once I got my Clod Buster, I never looked back and I have never had the urge to get a Blackfoot or any other 2WD monster truck again. I guess that the easiest way to say how I feel is that I like the Blackfoot but I love the Clod Buster. Thank you again for uploading this video and for the walk down memory lane. Who knows...without the Blackfoot I might have never gotten to where I am now regarding R/C monster trucks.

Using the Frog chassis was a great way to keep the price down to a point where a broke kid like me could buy a Blackfoot but that also meant that the problems in the chassis were not fixed. The weak rear driveline in particular was always a problem in the Frog and it only got worse with the much bigger and heavier Blackfoot tires bolted to it. It could be fixed with a new ball differential and a set of universal slider drive shafts from Thorp but those modifications were way out of my meager budget back then. Note that Tamiya finally fixed the weak driveline problem when they used dogbone style driveshafts in the rereleased versions of the Blackfoot and Frog. Those were a big upgrade over the original driveshafts.

Maybe it’s the lack of resolution and my small phone screen but the grill in this promo looks more like the re release grill than the vintage grill
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
It does look like the re-release grill or it's just flat, hard to tell because of resolution. Even after they show the mechanical speed controller and steering (at 2:55) the shot of the grill looks flat but in the shot of the number plate (at 3:01) the rectangle parts of the grill can be seen, albeit faintly. I'm thinking just bad resolution. 🤷‍♂️
