There used to be a small ad in the back of car magazines trying to sell these. I should have bought one.

My neighbor had a big bear when I was a kid. I remember how cheap it was but it was still cool. We a had tamiya stuff too. Took me a long time as an adult to rediscover and figure out that the truck he had was in fact a big bear. Once I finally came across one on ebay I realized immediately that's what it was. Took me a while to figure it out.

@@RCHobbyShed thank you for the vid! I have great memories of running our RC's together as kids. Sadly my neighbor friend was killed in a car accident when he was in high school. He hit an ice patch and rolled his jeep. I was in college by then: I was devastated. Some of my greatest memories as a kid was doing RC's with him and for years I tried to remember this truck! It drove me crazy that I couldn't figure out what it was. I finally figured it out and your video took me back to great memories with my friend - thank you again! You never know how significant your vids can be for some people I guess.

These cars are super cool 😎, too bad the Marui cars only lasted 5 years. I’m too nervous running them cause parts can be a pain to get. I ran my Samurai a few years back very gingerly tho. I had fun driving it around, even tho there are plenty of better RC cars to drive. But hey, the vintage cars are where they’re at. I’ve also run my Hunter as well, and what a fun car to kick up some dust in. I was bring it up to my cottage thinking it would be safer on the back set... but the rear tires ripped apart. Lucky I had spares. Just think without those vintage cars, we wouldn’t have what we have today

They are mate and yeah, it's a shame they weren't around for long. I doubt I'll ever run mine, parts are just too hard to find and expensive. Would be awesome if Marui re-released them but I don't think that will ever happen. Rumor has it they they destroyed their moulds. They could make new moulds of course, but I can't see them doing that since they weren't extremely popular to begin with. If you run your Samurai or Hunter again, get it on video for your channel. I'm sure a lot of people would love to see them running. Very true mate, the vintage cars where it all began. 👍

Three of the coolest rc cars made. This was my generation of RC and in my opinion way better then now minus the crappy mechanical speed controls.

They were awesome cars. This was my generation too, oh yeah those dodgy mechanical speed controls were a real buzz kill. If it wasn't one of them arcing and going up in smoke, it was the gears stripping lol. Those things aside they were just awesome fun! 👍

Cool lookin truck, Body n wheels mainly though. Goin for a shit ton on ebay. So might just recreate one with Blackfoot with Clod Buster wheels and try and source a body shell, although Traxxas Classic Bigfoot and carisma dune big also hyper-boss. Video was great man! Thank you!

Oh yeah, they are expensive now and getting hard to find in decent condition. I have seen people use the body on the Lunch Box/ Pumpkin chassis as the wheel base is pretty close to the Big Bear. Thanks for watching! 👍

this my first rc kit i bought with proceeds from my first job as a kid. had bad luck with the speed controller and replaced it with a solid state one that really sucked. later got an rc-10 and smashed the big bear to bits. in retro spec I wish I didnt.

I hear ya, the Marui's didn't have the greatest speed controllers or gears, they improved (slightly) in later models like the Samurai and Ninja but I think it was too little too late for Marui. An RC10 is a great step up from a Big Bear! I know what you mean, I trashed a few cars when I was younger that I wish I'd kept now.

@ronnie doorzon I also remember wanting the Bruiser and at the time I had a second hand Grasshopper, so safe to say the Bruiser was WAY out of my budget too. I also got a second hand Marui Super Wheelie Toyota Land Cruiser from my brother, it was a lot of fun but gears would wear out very quickly. My cousin had the Big Bear so we'd run them together quite often. I agree, they were cheap and good enough for us, i know we had countless hours of fun with them which now is great memories. Wouldn't have it any other way really. I'd still love to add more Marui's to my collection (after selling a lot a few years ago) they're a piece of RC history. The Blackfoot, another classic! Yeah those hex shafts were horrible in the ORV chassis Tamiyas. Still, I guess it was kind of the early days for RC. We still had fun and learned how to fix things ourselves along the way. 🙂👍
